Great success--followed by slight dietary backsliding.

  • Hi brand new to the forum, Quick run down on my success then failure.

11-29-2012 I started on the low carb diet. I was only going to do it till Christmas just to see what happened well I took to it and lost 8 pounds or so and was feeling absolutely great.

Long story short stayed on it and lost 70 pounds by June 2013, Just amazing (I was 350ish when I started so had lots to loose. Got down to 278 pounds and was feeling great looking great, I am 6 foot 1 so 278 was not my idea weight but at 42 I looked pretty good. Everywhere I went people would tell me how good I looked. I was playing basketball 3 times a week and working out I was able to do Karate again and sparr with the younger folks.

In the summer I started eating peanut butter as a treat, bad mistake I was soon going through a jar a day and the weight started coming back slowly at first till I just started cheating everyday.

I have sprang back up to 307 2 days ago, so on December 30th 2013 I decided to go back to low carb, so far down 5.5 pounds and already feel better.

I work at a place that the boss cooks breakfast every morning, and my part time job is delivering pizzas so not the best 2 jobs to have and loose weight.

So If anyone have some simple quick ideas on how to head off cravings before they happen that would be nice.

Thank you for listening to me and I hope to be reporting my success here weekly.
  • Welcome fzeiv000!

First of all Happy new year! Second.. never use the word failure, it's only classed as failure if you give up! and you're still fighting the good fight! haha

You've made great progress and you know what you're supposed to be doing as for fighting off those cravings when ever you feel like picking up any sort of food or snacks just think of your goal and how easier it'll be if you dont take a bite out of that "dirty" food! Slip ups always happen it's W/e tho just get right back onto your diet as long as you know it was wrong you can stop it next time.
  • Hi fzeiv000! You know, it's a continuous journey. You started out at 350 and now you are at 307. The way I see it, you're 43 lbs ahead of the game! Yes, you went lower and you will again, but right now, thank goodness you didn't gain it all back, right? I am on the Slow Carb Diet (a modified version of it) so I think low carb is a great choice and the only choice for someone who has trouble with carbs. As for cravings, I am lucky because my diet has a built-in cheat day each week. That makes it easy because whatever I crave I know I can have on cheat day. It's not for everyone though, and I am concerned about your experience with allowing yourself peanut butter. I have found that green tea tends to help with cravings, and although I can't recommend it, so does my Diet Dr. Pepper. I do hope you find what works for you! Good luck!
