How many servings are you eating daily?

  • I was wondering how many servings of fruits and veggies do you eat daily.

    Currently I am eating 5-6 cups veggies and 3-3.5 cups fruit.

  • It varies tremendously. I should eat a consistent daily amount (because I have IBS and consistency helps prevent painful flare-ups), but sometimes I overindulge.


    My plan (The Simple Diet) requires a 5 serving minimum and I usually eat 6-8.
  • Usually 1-2 cups of fruit or less, 5+ cups of veggies. That hasn't been happening for a while. Thanks for the reminder!

    The 1-2 cups of fruit and 1-2 cups are usually in smoothie form then the rest of the veggies along with my meals.

    30g should probably be considered a minimum rather than an ideal or maximum. Many sources suggest that 50 to 150g is probably optimal (the amount eaten by aboriginal tribes that still follow their ancestral, hunting/fishing/foraging/gardening lifestyle - who tend to be resistant to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases until they adopt a western diet).

    100g is pretty hard for modern people though (you're going to spend a lot of time eating and in the bathroom).

    More and more 40-50g is being recommended for weight loss.
