Atkins Folks - How is everyone today?

  • Its raining yet again here in CT! Such a downer. Day 3 and I lost 3 pounds even cheating a little. The no-fruit thing (I'm in induction) is driving me crazy with all the fresh melons but I guess its good that I am actually craving fruit.

I turned a corner, passing up on some chocolate covered raisins at Costco. I would normally buy the jumbo jar and say " this will last months" and eat it all in a week. Could this diet actually be working?

I still can't give up my hi octane coffee in the afternoon.

Does anyone have any of the Atkins cookbooks? 30 minute meal one or the other more updated one?

Have a nice day - thanks for all the support on the board!

  • Welcome to the Low-Carb Forum. There is lots of good stuff here.

Are you sure you want to be on Atkins? It sounds to me as if you want a program that allows fruit. After the Induction period on Atkins, you can slowly add carbs - berries and melons are good choices. However, small quantities only!

There are other low carb programs that allow fruit. Check out the list on the home page.

(By the way, I'm not knocking Atkins, in fact I'm on it right now, but I just can't imagine doing without fruit forever. I will be changing to another plan as soon as I get into ONEderland.)
  • Hi there
I keep hearing about Sugar Busters. I don't know if I have it in me to try yet another plan but from the forum it seems more liberal.

I need to follow something a little on the structured side just until I drop about 10 lbs (to get into my summer clothes from last year). Then my goal this year was to find a way of eating that I am not yo-yo-ing around so much.

I lost 22 lbs on WW but it did not last long. Took about 8 mos to lose it too. All I thought about was food all the time and how few points I had left for the rest of the day.

Tried Suzanne Somers - lost 15 lbs. But the gormet and hi-maintenance recipies were hard to keep up with.

Carb addicts and Lean for Life just made me sick.

Slim fast did absolutely nothing for me.

There were a few others I was on for about 15 minutes.

    Sigh...

  • CRAVINGS BE GONE!
If you truly follow the Atkins inductin plan, you will find your cravings getting less and less and you may find they may not even be an issue at some point!

I no longer freak when the bread basket comes to the table in the restaurant (this was after two weeks on Atkins - I am now on week 4 - still doing induction). Normally I would begin slathering butter on the warm bread and inhaling it!

Desserts don't bother me too much either now. It was my son's birthday a week ago...I did not have a piece of cake - did not really want it either (but I did lick some of the icing off the knife to have a taste).

I have even gone to the movies (twice) and not had any popcorn - and the great thing was I did not really want it (had decaf coffee w/cream instead)....previously I would get the hugest bag, doused in butter, diet pop..and then get those free refills.

A huge change - but the freedom from the call of the carbs is great.

    Hang in there!
