Please help me decipher this label!

  • Newbie here...I've spent the last few days on the forum researching, reading, and trying to understand the ins and outs of IPD.

Reading about subtracting fiber and sugars, etc, etc....I still don't get it.
    SO....

I picked up a box of Pure Protein Smores bars and have spent the last 1/2 hour searching the forum and reading to figure out if these are good or "bad".

    Here is the label...
    Pure Protein Smores

    Are they acceptable?

I kindly thank you in advance....
  • At 20 g carbs, too high.
If you go to the alternative thread, you'll find Amberjules chart for what to look for.
Many bars are 20+ carbs but may have 15 g fiber, which would make them 5 g net carbs.
You never subtract sugar. It is a carb.
  • Maybe this will help

  • Ooooh Great lil picture A1Texan...
    thanks D:
  • Ok thanks- I thought for sure I'd read to subtract sugars somewhere...sigh...

    Which "alternative thread"?
There are SO many "alternative threads" it takes hours to find an answer to a specific question.
I think someone needs to make a "Cliff's notes" version of alternatives...if they haven't already! :-)

    A1Texan- Thank you!! Great chart!
  • Sugar alcohols (xylitol and others ending in -ol) aren't completely digested, so many products subtract them from total carbs.

Fiber is a carb that is not digested at all, so it can be subtracted with no worries. However sugar alcohols are partially digested and some people can digest them more thoroughly than others. This makes it impossible to know how much can be subtracted accurately.
