Is my body insane?

  • I am totally confused. So a couple of weeks ago, I posted about fearing I may be on a plateau, as the last time I tried losing weight, I plateaued around that period of time. Someone recommended that I go back up to a normal maintaining calorie intake for a few days, then go back down again. So I decided to keep eating mostly healthy foods, but not count calories, and eat what I want, as long as it's not massively out of whack. Lately I've been craving meat - which is weird as I am usually not a big meat eater. I was even a vegetarian for 4 years - so I've been eating a lot of beef and turkey jerky. I have been snacking a little here and there of peanuts and cashews, dark chocolate raisinets, etc. I haven't been eating in binge amounts, but just not like you would ideally on a weight loss diet. Well, I was actually starting to worry that maybe I might start gaining weight a few days ago, but I wanted to start up after 2 weeks, so I stayed about the same. I weighed myself earlier not expecting anything really bad, but nothing really good either. I can tell I am holding a few lbs of water weight as it is, but I oddly noticed my knuckles looked a little differently. So I was lost. I weighed and it showed I had lost around 7lbs in the last 2 weeks. I weighed again, and all 3 times it was the same. What is going on? I can guestimate that I was at maintaining intakes ( and I don't lose easily)
  • I don't know the scientific explanation. But to me, our bodies adapt to our surroundings. Whether that be our environment, our sleeping pattersn or what we eat. I think it's healthy so mix it up every now and then, and clearly it's worked for you! Way to go! That's an awesome achievement.

For me, I'm so used to running off little sleep, and when I get more than 'usual', I'm more tired, groggy, late for walk etc. And when i get more, my total hours of sleep equal that of a 'normal' person. I'm trying to break that, but it's hard.

Now that you've smashed through the plateau, hopefully you'll see some more progress. Congrats!
  • If the gods of weight loss have smiled on you, don't risk angering them by questioning their capricious methods.

LOL! Yes this... and send some of that juju over here!
  • Most likely answer? You weren't on a plateau you were in a caloric deficit but retaining water.

The last couple of weeks your body has decided to drop the water.
