Any Vintage/Retro/Rockabilly People Out There? Ration Diet?

  • I personally am relatively obsessed with all things between 1930 and 1960. I love the fashion, the music, the films, the history, pretty much everything! Anyone else out there have a passion or a general like for it as I do?

Related to diet, I'm thinking of doing a ration diet for a while. You know, see how it was, go through some of the old recipes. Anyone heard of that? It's a cool idea. I had no idea people actually were doing it!
  • Huh. I have never heard of the Ration Diet, but it sounds intriguing.

    I'm more of a mid-50's early-60's gal myself
  • I haven't heard of the ration diet, either, but I could see it being pretty decent- lots of veggies from you victory garden, limited meat and fats...I collect cookbooks and I have two that you might be interested in googling: Grandma's Wartime Kitchen and Grandma's Wartime Baking. They were written by a woman who grew up during WWII and spent some time researching the old recipes and methods of cooking during rationing. They have some neat historical stuff in them, and the recipes have been updated a little so you can make them with things available now. I got mine on Amazon.
  • while this is a little bit older, the site www.vintagerecipes.net is a good place also...the recipes are VERY old which I find fascinating! I also love old things in general and am particularly drawn to old London (cobblestones etc) and the 1920s...I have memories of past lives there so it makes sense
  • Oh! There actually are some of you!

Yeah, the ration diet is very interesting. There's a woman who has lost more than 100 pounds on it I believe. She has a blog called "The 1940s Experiment" if anyone is interested.

PreciousMissy: What a great era! My vintage love often falls in to the 60s too. I mean, come on, The Beatles are only the greatest thing ever. Haha.

MarjorieMarjoran: Those are fabulous books! Thank you so much for telling me about them! I had no idea such things existed. And if it ever stops snowing, I completely plan to have a victory garden.

Alaskanlaughter: That's another really great find! I love how uncomplicated older recipes tend to be. It's simple nourishment. Old 1920s London is a very romantic image indeed. I love old paintings and pgotographs like the images you're talking about. Past lives? How interesting. How do you mean?
