newb (oh god, i cant believe i just said that)

  • Hello Everyone!

I'm alyssa and i JUST got diagnosed w/ PCOS yesterday. I'm really struggling to come to grips w/ it but I'm so happy there are other beautiful ladies out there struggling like me!

I'm actually planning on going grocery shopping to start my new PCOS lifestyle change (a diet is NEVER long term!). I was wondering what are some GOOD healthy choices? I love salads but is it healthy to eat them everyday??

I'm 20 years old and my "plan" is to try for a baby at 23/24 .. I want to be healthy though! I want to lose 100 lbs and of course be able to drop some eggs!

Any advice and positive feedback would be splendid!!

  • Hey girl!!
One thing I think would be super helpful if you're making a lifestyle change is to start by tracking what you already eat. Don't make any changes but make sure you write down EVERY SINGLE THING that goes on in your mouth. Do it for a week or two. Also write down any patterns you notice. Do you eat more when you're super emotional? Are you a night time nibbler?

Figure out what you're relationship with food is now so you know what to work on and can anticipate problems.

As for your grocery list, it really depends on your comfort level with nutrition and in the kitchen. Do you know your basal metabolic rate? Or how much fat, carbs, protein you would need in a day? Are you willing to experiment with healthy recipes?
If not, I would suggest signing up for sparkpeople or myfitnesspal or another website like that. It's a lot more interactive and more willing to walk you through your lifestyle changes. Plus they're free.

    Hope this helps!
    Best of luck,
    Faye
  • Thank you so much!! I've heard of the myfitnesspal but have yet to try it! Downloading it on my phone as we speak! I'm not quite sure how to cook healthy, all I know is that I like chicken and cheese lol! But i'm going to start out by doing a food diary. I want high protein meals, i'm really just going to struggle with cutting out breads! I'm really excited to share my journey with you all!!
