What I want for ME

  • I want to be the kind of person who can eat a donut. (or a cheeseburger, or some BBQ chicken, or a slice of cheesecake, etc.)

I want to be the kind of person who doesn't have a donut every single day.

I want to be the kind of person who has a donut once in a while.

I want to be the kind of person who doesn't feel guilty on the few occasions I do have a donut.

I want to be the kind of person who doesn't see a donut & want it with a fever even if I'm not hungry... even if I'm stuffed to the gills...

I want to be the kind of person who can say no to a donut and mean it.

And oh, how I wonder... What does it take to be that kind of person?

  • I had to become a person who doesn't eat donuts. But I LOVE mangoes, and pineapple, and apples, and oranges, and so many other fruits, and fat-free yougurt, which I do eat...and it's OK.

Krampus, on the other hand, I know is able to maintain eating a wide variety of foods.

What a great post! I completely understand what you are saying, Beach Patrol.

I think you CAN be that kind of person, but in order to do so you have to give yourself unlimited permission to eat whatever you want. That's very difficult for those of us who have spent years chronically dieting.

I had a piece of cheesecake today, probably the first one I've had in at least a year. It was divine, and I enjoyed it so much - WITHOUT GUILT.

You might want to investigate intuitive eating. We have a great thread under General Diet Plans and Questions. Based on what I've been reading from your posts, it sounds as if you may be ready to try it. I was exactly where you are when I started.

    Just a suggestion.
  • I do think some intuitive eating strategies may help. Realize that if you have access to a donut (or whatever), then you can have it if you want it but it may not be what you want/need right at this moment.

Sometimes I find myself eating things I don't like just because I have access to them, but that is the easy part to resolve. Like my husband brought home candy treats for valentine (from coworkers) and last week brought home a krispy kreme donut, those things were easy for me to throw in the trash. Harder is if he had brought home bagels.

Bagels are my weakness and if I want one, I'll have one but I also have to realize that the bagel I may have access to isn't the last bagel in the world. And a friend of mine just offered me brownies she made and let me tell you, telling her 'no thank you' was difficult but brownies aren't what I'm feeling or need right now.

(I'm not an intuitive eater but do try to utilize some of the strategies)

This is such a great point!

And you bring up something important, and that is IE strategies can help everyone, regardless of what program they are using. I know that The Beck Diet Solution certainly does use some of them.
