Whose dealt with this blessing?

I got one after I gave birth in 2002 and it only came back twice in 9 years...now it's visiting more often in the last few months and I'm getting tired of this. I see my Doc in April so I will ask then but just wondering if anyone out there knows a good remedy. It's not real bad but a pain in the..

My DH gets them now and then, do not wait! The second you feel one, go get it fixed! The longer you let them go, the worse they get!

While you're at it, ask your Dr. for advice on prevention.

Heavy lifting can cause them, that's how my Dh gets them, pregnancy, straining with bowel movements, and most likely some stuff I don't even know.

Don't be embarassed, it's a common ailment. Of course I can say that, I work for a veterinarian and see all kinds of strange stuff!

How do they fix tiny ones?

The doctor told my husband - more fiber and exercise helps (cardio/walking, etc).

My husband (and his mother years before) had a surgery removal of hemorrhoids. Under anesthesia, the whole bit and it was NO JOKE, but his were bad, really, really, really bad (hereditary problem it seems) and he still can have problems. because you can get NEW ones. He needs to eat an insane amount of fiber to keep them at bay and he will not eat constipating things like bananas, chocolate, rice, etc.

I have experienced it or twice after moving to a new place and lifting a lot of heavy stuff. It went away with using ointment (preparation h/generic stuff) for a couple of days to a week. No ideas as far as remedies go, sorry.

I have no idea how they fix tiny ones and I am surprised to learn hemorrhoids may be hereditary. I am also surprised at bananas being constipating?! I thought it had a lot of fiber (3-4 grams for a medium sized one, I think) to help you go but I guess it does make sense because of the BRAT diet, somewhat binding?

Yes they are hereditary but as long as you have a high fiber diet you don't absolutely have to get them just because family members had them. You might be more prone though.

Some anti inflammatory otc pain medication like advil helps bring down the swelling, you can get a prescription for suppositories which help a lot. Warm baths, very good hygiene and eating a lot of grapes and prunes will help them pass.

I took 600mg Advil about 3 hours ago and that pretty much ended my saga..for now.

I had to think about what I have been doing different that would suddenly cause this to happen more frequently the last few months. I do take necessary medication that causes BM issues but I have been taking it for years (w/o hemm trouble) but I'm currently weaning down. Until I am at much lower dosage I should be taking a daily stool softener which I admittedly slack about. I probably don't drink enough water AND I have been eating bananas (1-2) almost daily the last few months. Hmmmmm...

I do have good hygiene and exercise a lot so I'm good there.

So: No bananas, more water and daily stool softener or eat dried prunes. No more dry toilet paper for BM. I'm going to buy flushable wipes and pour witch hazel on them.

They mentioned something about coffee being "bad" but they will have to pry that cup from my dead hand. I need about 8oz a day or I'm not human.

Bananas for some people are constipating, but not all and unripe and ripe bananas affect you differently too. Here's more:

Colace (stool softeners) are not a laxative that make you go, just helps to soften things up when you do go so you don't strain. The pharmacy said it was safe to take these once a day with my medication. I agree though laxatives are bad.

umm how does one know the signs of hemorroids? and how does lifting heavy things cause them? i carry pretty heavy stuff almost every day and now i'm a bit worried :/

It's possible to give yourself a hernia by lifting really heavy things improperly but not hemorrhoids is typically caused by improper heavy pushing while defecating.

This makes sense. I only ever got them after having my two babies. They tell you to push down hard like you're having a BM so that makes sense.

Just make sure they look you over thoroughly. I was misdiagnosed with the little buggers a few months after I had my daughter. I kept going back because they hurt so bad I had sleep in a warm bath. Finally I went to the ER with an infection and had to have surgery... for NOT hemorrhoids.

But, that's worse case scenario. A standard hemorrhoid is inconvenient but fairly easy to deal with.

I have roids. They're not quite bad enough to have surgery but they're certainly a "presence" if you know what I mean. I keep Preparation H suppositories on hand for flare ups and they work fairly well to reduce the swelling and bleeding in a couple of days. I've had a couple of really awful flare ups where I've had to go to the doctor and get prescription suppositories and pain meds. One small thing that I've done that has made a huge difference is that I no longer use toilet paper after bowel movements. I use these wipes. They help with the itch and inflammation. Since I started using those, I haven't had a flare up. I also buy the individually packaged wipes to keep in my purse and back pack.

I have had them before, and they are horrible. Feels like I'm being ripped open when they flare up.
