Spike day (maintenance day)

  • I am thinking of doing a 'spike day' tomorrow, where I eat at maintenance and then go back on my plan.

I used to cycle my calories when I first lost weight, but I found I ran into a lot more plateaus, so I haven't been. So far I am having another 'bouncing between the 3 same weights' week again, probably because I am not being consistent with exercising -but I thought it would be good to try a 'spike day' to see if that gets things moving.

Does anyone do this frequently and find it works for them? I am almost scared because if I weight myself on Monday and I gained I will probably cry haha!
  • It is really hard to determine maintenance calories exactly but I have had a great experience with cycling myself. Sad to hear it did not work for you. I would give one higher day a try for sure....but track everything. :-)
  • Thank! No other opinions from anyone? Im still at 205 :/
  • you are bouncing between weights in one week? i wouldn't up my calories for that. cycling might work, but you can't really judge things by 1 week.
  • re:
I agree. 1 week is really nothing to be concerned about. As time goes on, you may find you lose nothing on 2 weeks or more despite being on plan. You've got to start getting used to the fact that weight loss may not happen every single week.

If you see no movement for a month, maybe then it's time to look at reassessing your calories.

I know, but I always lose at least 1 a week since I've been doing this. I am afraid my lack of exercising this week is what is causing it. I planned on going to the movies tonight so I was hoping to coincide that with my spike day.
