Self-Comforting Ideas?

  • As I mentioned in a previous thread today, I no longer no how to self-soothe. I used to do it with food. Well, obviously that is not really an option anymore. Not to mention, that was usually an unhealthy habit.

I'm sad to admit that I have yet to find anything as calming and comforting as food. :: sigh :: I know that a lot of it has to do with chemical reactions and such- and I even have dopa muca which I can take, but I don't look forward to that.

What have you found that you really look forward to? What brings you comfort and excitement? what soothes your soul?

    I'll give it a try!
  • A good book, candles, music and a bubble bath. Also I know it's not "ideal" but I've been known to still use food but I find something like yogurt or fruit very soothing even before making the change. I just don't use chocolate, candy and fried stuff anymore.
  • It's not necessarily super healthy but I watch old Friends and West Wing episodes. They are two of my favorite tv shows.
  • Have you thought about learning to play an instrument? Also, I've heard of people taking up crochet or knitting. It's hard to do any of these with sticky hands -- keeps you out of mindless snacking. I second the bubble baths, too!
