An overeater detected! Could you help me?

  • Hi guys,

I was not obese in the childhood but I gained weight a lot in my teens. Now I'm 24 and I've been trying to lose weight almost 8 years. This is so tiring both mentally and physically. I weighed 251 lbs 4 years ago and this was the heighest I saw. I've managed to lose 58 lbs until then but I could not change my lifestyle. I'm diagnosed with PCOs and insuline resistance. Although I lose some weight, finally I found myself eating large amounts of junk foods. This is a big disappointment and you get tired of giving up and then starting again. I don't want to be an overeater and emotional eater anymore. What can I do in order to change myself completely, to resist against sweety foods? And also I would like to know your opinions and experiences about drugs which contain metformin? Thanks a lot for your help.
  • :w el3fc:Iamonadiet glad your here
I can appreciate how your world changed gaining a lot of weight as a teenager that's a challenging time in it's self without throwing the increase weight into the mix.

There are people here that struggle with PCO ,just have to navigate the different sub groups
    Good Luck,Roo2
  • My highest (recorded) weight was 254 lb about 3 years ago. I was diagnosed with PCOS on January 8 and diabetes on January 21, so I know what you're going through. I've lost some weight in the past, but always went back to my old habits. I feel like this time around is different and am currently at my lowest weight in probably a decade.

I've realized that most of my hunger and cravings are really just from being bored. At the beginning, I chewed a lot of gum and drank a lot of water to help with that. I've also found that I can't completely cut things out of my diet. I need to have a little cheat every now and then to prevent binges. As long as it doesn't make my blood sugar spike a lot or make me go over my daily calorie goal, I let myself have a small amount of sugar-free chocolate or potato chips or whatever I'm craving.

As for the metformin, I've only been on it for 3 weeks, so I don't have a lot of experience. I was prescribed the regular generic and had some mild side effects with that. My doctor just gave me some samples of the extended release version because less people tend to experience side effects with it. I think it has helped with excess hair. Also, it's still a bit early to tell, but I think it has helped my blood sugar levels (although diet and exercise played a part).

I see that you're a calorie counter too! If you're on My Fitness Pal, feel free to friend me there. My username is immacuatemfp.
  • I have PCOS too and the thing about it is that if you have any indicator of IR (your doc can tell you more) then you're going into battle with sweets/carbs/etc. without a fighting chance.

The best diet is one is that is very low of any refined carbohydrates. Preferably lower carb than other diets. I know you're calorie counting but you may want to carb count too and see if you can keep your carbohydrate grams at 150 initially.

The lower in carbs your diet is, the easier it is to handle the fight against anything sweet.

It's not too active, like this one, because it's specialized only in IR and PCOS support.

But, I do think there is some good information there and there are a lot of other PCOS women who are going through the same fight as you.
