Scale recommendations?

  • Hi everyone,

I need to buy a new set of bathroom scales (have been using the one that was in our rented house, but I recently bought a place and we'll be moving there in a few weeks) but I don't know where to start!

Does anyone have a scale they absolutely love and would recommend? I went out and bought a cheap non-digital one, and then got really embarrassed when I realised it didn't go high enough. I get the impression that you get what you pay for, but I don't want to break the bank either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and even hints about what sort of thing to look for (like, are the ones that measure body fat worth the extra money, etc?)

    Thanks!
  • I recently got this scale and love everything about it, except one thing...the weight keeps defaulting to kg instead of lbs!

For the money, I find it pretty in my bathroom (since I never put it away now lol), the numbers and weight-limit are big enough for me, and it's 10x better than the old I had.

There is a button on the bottom that just needs to be pressed for the weight mode to change but it's a pain in the neck to me! But in full disclosure, I am not a tech-y person so it could be me doing something wrong as I never read the directions!

Good luck finding a new scale. I went through 3-4 until I loved this one finally.

  • I have a Taylor scale that does all the extra measurements. I bought it cheap at London Drugs. As far as weight goes it's accurate. I am not sure about the other measurements. I don't have anything to compare too. I think the body fat % doesn't go higher than 50% and I am fairly certain I am over that. I will keep checking as I lose weight to see if anything changes. It's nice looking and glass and brushes steel. I think a good scale is a worthwhile investment, decide how much you are willing to spend and check out scales in that price range. Happy shopping!
  • If you don't want one with all the extra bells and whistles, this one looks super cool! http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-Scales-...=weight+scales
  • I had this scale at my husband's house when we were dating. I loved it. Kept accurate weight, and the backlit readout meant I didn't have to turn on the light to read it.

  • I was of a heavier weight. This one worked really well and has held up. I have had it for many years, probably 7-10 years. http://www.tanita.com/en/hd351/

I have this exact same scale! I love it too. Taylor scales are my go-to brand.
  • Thank you all so much! I'm going to go and check out the links now. It's a relief to know there are several to choose from that I won't be too heavy for!
  • I have a glass scale that goes up to 400lbs (thats why I bought it). It's called an EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale w/ Extra Large Backlit 3.5" Display and "Step-On" Technology and the reviews are VERY good. I enjoy it because its glass and chilly when I step on it (stupid, I know) LOL! Check it out on Amazon!

  • I'm going to add in another rave for the Taylor scales! I had one and loved it. It always weighed the same (or pretty close) to my weights at the Dr's. My brother ended up breaking it though so I just got a cheaper one for now.
