I have been trying to make my own oil and vinegar salad dressing. What type of oil can I use that will not harden in the refrigerator? I have been using Olive Oil and I have to let it melt before I use it.

Also any good creamy dressing ideas made without yogurt.

Hmmm - I make my own oil and vinegar based dressings and they don't harden in the fridge. I wonder why yours are.

I really like the "greek vinaigrette" WW recipe on their site. I haven't been able to get enough of it lately.

Same here, no olive oil hardening if it is refrigerated. Do you use some sort of olive oil butter?? The olive oil I have looks just like cooking oil, in color and same form (liquid.)

I have no recipe for creamy dressings as I am a fan of oil and vinegar dressings, sorry.

I am a huge fan of the ranch packets in pretty much anything Fat Free. You said you don't want yogurt, but have you tried sour cream? or even fat free mayo?

I have a misto (I LOVE MY MISTO) and i usually just spray a little of that with some balsamic. Yummm

This interest me, I use 100% Extra Virgin olive oil with Balsamic vinegar and when I put it in the refrigerator, it comes out hard - no longer a liquid. Maybe the amount of vinegar has to be higher.

Any ideasm why this is happening to me?

Mine coagulates in the frig, too. I have been protioning it in small containers and take it our of the frig an hour, or so before I want to use it.

Your olive oil's hardening in the fridge can have something to do with how ripe it was when it was processed, or how it was processed, or how cold you keep your refrigerator (just one degree can make a difference). Your next bottle may do just fine.

PS - I use aged balsamic vinegar, and drizzle it, and the olive oil, right out of the bottles from the cabinet. The vinegar is so good that I don't need other ingredients, so it always flows nicely at room temperature.

Anyone ever try just a sprinkling of Japanese rice vinegar ( the plain kind)? It's yummy!

Sigh, I think I need to learn to develop a taste for this. My favorite has always been blue cheese but I refuse to spend the points on it that BC costs!

LRH, I use that on chopped cucumbers and love it - not sure why I didn't think of putting it all over a salad!

Roxanne, there are some good light blue cheese salad dressings out there. I can't remember the name of the brand that I had most recently - they made it with yogurt, and it was in the produce section. It was pricey,but low in points, and it was very good! I bought it at The Fresh Market, not sure if you have one of those nearby. I'll check out the brand next time I'm there.
