Mio - How Much Is Too Much?

  • I started using Mio in my water on Saturday. I was really struggling to get down plain water and the Mio has made it so much easier. I asked my coach on Tuesday at my weigh in how much I should have during the day. She really didn't have an answer (she is new as well as this program at my clinic).

Anyway, I read on a thread here that somebody's coach told them to use it a max of 3 times per day. Is this the acceptable standard while on IP? I'm concerned now that I'm using it too many times a day and I DO NOT want to do anything to screw up. I just love being in ketosis and don't want to ever have to go through those first 3 days again!

Thanks in advance for your help!!
  • There's really no gold standard, but here's what I have done since the beginning:

Even Zero carb food and drinks have trace carbs (some are under half a carb, some much closer to 1 carb, most don't disclose the exact amount) - the FDA allows them to label something as Zero carbs as long as it's under one carb. Too much of it in a day can add up fast. So I have always limited myself to 6 servings per day of any "extras" that are "zero carb" products - drinks, sweeteners, walden farms products, etc. That helps me to make sure I'm not adding more than 6 extra carbs to my day.
  • Thanks Scorbett! That makes perfect sense to me, I have been limiting my WF dressing to a large, full tablespoon per salad and I usually eat 2 salads a day.

And it won't kill me to drink water without the Mio, I usually do in the morning and at night. I can use it 2 times during the day and leave room for my other zero carb extras. :-)
  • I have been drinking mio in all my water all the time and I have not noticed a stal on the scale my coach actually recommended it to me to help me with my water
  • Thanks for the response, Dinie! I was concerned about too much Mio "kicking" me out of ketosis, if that makes any sense. I'm only on day 8 and have so much to learn. I did get smart and bought 20 oz water bottles to psych myself into thinking I need to drink "only" 3 and a half bottles of water. The Mio has helped sooooo much!

I have a 24 oz bottle and I normally only put about 2 squirts in the bottle- I also really only use my walden farms based on the bottle labels and some days have egg whites so I don't over kill on the 0/0/0 stuff - I have come to learn each coach will tell you something different tho - but I love my MIO and really have not had it affect me =)

Great advice Scorbett! It's worth mentioning that some people are more sensitive to the artificial sweeteners than others, so just be aware of what you're putting into your body. If you notice a stall or slowed weight loss or increased cravings, you might want to cut back or eliminate it from your diet.
  • I use it only 1-2 times a day...I have it after lunch for my "dessert" and then maybe once later if I find I am too sick of water. I am more concerned about the artificial sweetener than the carbs. I've never really use anything with atrificial sweetener much until this diet...
  • Thank you everyone! This has helped a lot! I think I will cut back a bit on the Mio, I need to learn to embrace the taste of good ole' water a few more times a day, I think I was using the Mio as a "treat" more than anything and that is not a good mental thing for me to do. :-)

Being diabetic, I'm VERY sensitive to artificial sweetners. I LOVE the liquid concentrate Koolaid brand (like Mio bottles) but I have to limit to one squirt a day (as my treat) or my blood sugars react, and my weight loss slowed the first week I was using them, because I was using them several times a day. So yes, be aware of your body. Watch whats happening.
