I am a Costco girl and they had Levi Jeans there so I bought some.
I picked up a size 2 for my teenager who is petite and skinny ...they were huge on her and she told me mom they should fit you ,well they did ... I had a little bit of room in the waist. Clothes are not true to size and I know there is no way I'm a size 2 and I have the belly to prove it .
I wish the clothing industry would standardize sizes and would make it so much easier to shop.
I don't care what the tag size says as long as it truly fits.
I know I'm losing weight but really I have a teenage girl so I know what skinny looks like ...and it definitely Not Me!
Tired of buying clothes that don't fit! It's hard enough shopping when your short but this is making it even harder
I don't want to spend an arm and leg for clothes either so I refuse to shop specialty stores ,plus I wear Scrubs at work so I just need clothes to wear when I'm off work.

It's a lack of quality control at a variety of factories. Sadly, companies send their clothing out to multiple factores in multiple countries (each clothing order is offered to the lowest bidder), then, no one checks on the quality during production, so the interpretation of the pattern or the pattern passed around the factory produces odd sizes.

I predominately shop at Cold Water Creek and I have purchased the same top in different colors and the large was either huge or too small. I take it back and complain. Finally, after multiple complaints, a manager confided the problem to me. Sometimes the sizing is correct, so I stick with them, but it is truly damaging most companies reputations around the world (not just a US problem).

If I had the money, I would go to a fashion design school, find some good designers and have my clothing designed for my body type and made for me. What a treat! At my goal weight, I plan to hire a local designer to at least make one dress for me. I think it would be incredible to have a dress that fit perfectly.

I just read your post title again...perhaps Levi's is sizing down on purpose to make bigger people not feel so bad? Is that what you meant by vanity sizing? If that is the case-send a complaint and start shopping elsewhere. If they receive enough complaints, they will stop.

Roo2 we are the same height. I am at 123, looking to get to 118. I have twin teenage daughters my height.

One thing I am learning is that I cannot compare myself to them.

I do understand what you mean by vanity sizing, clothes are manufactured all over the world, no way to enforce true sizing.

I can tell you at 123 I am wearing size 00 from J Crew and they are tight. 0's are a great fit. But I cannot wear a bikini, have love handles and a belly. I am an apple.

I think you are truly skinny and your mind has not caught up with your weight loss.

I ordered something online in a size 2 only to realize for that outfit I need a size 8!

I don't try to fight it, I try everything on. I take at least two sizes with me in to the dressing room.

I hear you, the jeans I picked up when I previously hit goal were a 6 and they fit! Even at my lowest I was always a 7/8 or 9.

I found an old pair of 9's and they barely fit so I agree... I believe they have changed the sizing and the new jeans all seem to have lycra which makes them fit a lot bigger than the size indicated

I also have to try everything on and I mean everything, even if it is the exact same item. I think it is crazy that clothing isn't standardized, but it seems that I can buy hubby the same size no matter what.

I find for both hubby and I, we need to try on shoes too, unless they are Merrells, love my merrells, I can order them and they always fit

Clothes have definitely been resized. I am wearing a medium sweater most of the time and my bust measurement is 43! That is ridiculous! When I get to my goal weight, I am going to have to shop in children's!

I don't sweat the sizing - even among the high end designers there are discrepancies in shaping. I'm more worried about the way the clothes fit me than what the tag says

As far as "resizing" goes, I haven't really come across that - I am wearing jeans and shirts that were in a box for 10 years - my 12's from then still fit the same as the 12's I bought a month ago. Some were Old Navy jeans but a couple of pairs of Ralph Lauren non-stretchy jeans also fit. Some of the M and L tops are a little snug but I know from my measurements that my bust is still a little bigger than it was 10 years ago (I still have a little back pudge to get rid of!).

At Costco's they don't have a dressing room but even if they did I am intimidated by fitting room mirrors..I do not have a Full Length Mirror in our house even though my teenage daughter keeps asking for one and I know I will eventually give in...just not in my Bathroom!
I still really don't like to look at myself in the mirror...and to be truthful I never have even when I slimmer.
Being short makes clothes shopping challenging cuz sometimes the proportions are just not right .I have purchased a short that can vary in length by a couple of inches and I don't want to do alterations.
I wish I could grow a couple inches cuz being short causes all your weight to show easily!

OMG, I heard about this strategy over the TV and thought to myself that this is so stupid! I mean seriously! They said it is a tactic to make people feel good about their size and make them shop more! It is all a plan of marketing.

Like you, this frustrates me, I mean I do not need to be lied to in order to feel better about myself!

I learned this last weekend when I went to put on a pair of size 12 jeans that are ten years old. They were too tight?!!?! So, instead I put on the size 10 jeans (same company!) that I bought last year...they fit just right.

It was strange/depressing?!?!? MY DH and I even discussed vanity sizing...and he said "they don't really do that ...do they?!". I said "what else could possibly explain this?!?!"

Frustrating. I agree with previous posters...just be "honest" with the sizing!

I agree, sizing is frustrating. I have a pair of black jeans that are probably 18 years old, and although the tag isn't in them, they had to be a size 12 when I bought them. I can now fit into those jeans, but in new sizing, 12's fall off me, and tens are getting loose. I buy my jeans used off of Ebay (much cheaper) and always go for items that include measurements.

And yes, being short is frustrating! I'm on the taller side, and being here is hard too. With jeans sitting lower on the waist these days, the tops/sweaters just fall too short on my body. And I don't want to be showing my belly.

Totally agree with the frustration. I haven't had this problem until recently, because I could only shop at one Canadian shop. Well, since I'm out of the 6X's and 32's, I've branched out and done some shopping online in some US stores. No size is the same anywhere! I'm wearing 3X tops at home, and I can barely get into a 5X from Torrid. SWAK's sizes range between a 2X and a 6X for me. It's insane!
