Hurting...cannot exercise today.

  • Grrrr! I have an old back injury (3 disc herniations with sciatic pain both legs) , and some days I just cannot do it. I feel bad today. With a headache on top of the other. I just got wii Zumba join the party and am dying to try it! I am ready to sweat! Oh we'll, I guess there is always tomorrow...
  • Don't be too hard on yourself. You HAVE to take care of your body. You can still easily be in a calorie deficit today on diet alone. The better you take care of your body now, the more you will be able to do later! Hugs!
  • Tysm Lock!
  • Ouch! Feel better, and take it easy!
  • Be good to yourself. Maybe some gentle stretching or an epsom salts bath for today?
  • Yikes! Sorry to hear about that. I have sciatica issues as well so I try to be very, very careful when exercising.

The only thing that helps me is doing slight Pilates moves every so often. As in starting off at 2 or 3 minutes at a time for 5+ times a day. I can't go longer than that, but I gradually build up the time as I get stretched and balanced out.

    Hope you feel better soon.
  • Tempted
To take a pain pill and do it anyway, but will probably regret it tomorrow!

The reason we experience pain is it's our bodies way of telling us a part of us in injured and to rest it.

I think you should listen to your body. I, too, have a herniated disc and have good days and bad days. Pushing my back on a bad day is a sure-fire way to injure myself quite badly.

    Rest!
  • Ty ERD.....I will rest.
  • Do not risk your body. You can continue anyway when your healed. Take it easy.
  • take it easy and get better soon
  • If you have a back injury, something like Zumba is a bad idea in general. It has generated far too many injuries all by its lonesome and isn't well suited to someone with pre-existing hip or back issues. Something with less twisting, jumping, and shuffling, is a much better bet.

I can't remember which one of my chiropractors mentioned that they see multiple Zumba injuries per week in their patient roster, but I took that to heart big time!
  • agree about taking it easy for now, and giving your body a chance to rest. Hopefully, as you continue to lose the weight, it will be less pressure on those disks and they'll start to feel a bit better.
  • I have been able to do some pretty rigorous exercise with this injury.....I am still gonna try it when I feel better. I am confident that I know my body and will discontinue if I find it too strenuous....
  • I did it! Only moderately sore tho, I am restricting the twisting movements a bit, but other than that it was pretty awsum!
