Water Retention & Cymbalta 30 mg/daily

  • Hello, All!

This is my first post. I look forward to learning from you.

For the past couple of weeks, I've been using my new Ninja blender to make all natural fruit/veggie smoothies. No milk. I use water. I also use greek yogurt to add protein, etc. I've been feeling so much better (mentally & physically). I've had extra energy, so I've been more motivated to jog on the treadmill and not smoke (I am/was a stress smoker). I've been on and tried to get off of Cymbalta 30 mg for over a year; could not do without...was a raging, crying mess.

I refuse to be a slave to the scale, since weighing myself would discourage me from continuing on this path. I'm SLOWLY losing lbs, but feel and look thinner.

    My question is...
Why do I wake up feeling and looking slender, but as soon as I put anything in my body, besides my one cup a day of coffee (1 splenda), do I bloat up like a puffer fish?! I could barely put my jeans on a while ago. I retain water so easily. Should I just give my body a little more time on the extra water and recent change with exercise? Give up gluten? What?

Any advice or stories with your experience would be appreciated.

    J~
  • I would try tracking your sodium intake. You can stay bloated for days if you have too much sodium in your body. You can count sodium just like you do with calories. Most people should get no more than 3000 Mg of sodium a day. Start reading labels. I can't have any more than 2500 mg a day or it puts my blood pressure up enough that i get dizzy. Since I cut my salt I found that I no longer have migraines, I have more energy and feel less bloated all the time.
  • Thanks for the advice.

I think that it may have been the greek yogurt that I'm using. I've stopped using it for a couple of days, and I see a difference.
