New and eager!

  • Hi ladies/gents! I am new to this site and ready to start looking and feeling great! In 2013 I will turn 48 years old and I have been fighting overweight for almost 20 years. I could stand to lose probably about 90 lbs, but I will be happen to lose about 50. I know that at my age, it is not going to be easy, and this journey is not going to be a race. From what I have seen by lurking here for about a week, this board is a TREMENDOUS resource!

So I have put my foot on the path to feeling great by 48, and I may need some serious hand holding at first, but I cannot look back, I cannot keep going on the path I've been on!

    Peace!

    Gr8
  • You can definitely do it!
  • You'll do great. Welcome.
  • Good luck!
  • Thanks for the welcomes! I have been poking around this site trying to figure out where I might best fit in. I am not doing any written plan per se, I am combining a few things that I know have worked for me in the past. I have no problem losing weight on ANY plan: my problem is actually sticking to a plan LONG TERM!

I do lean towards lower carb, I just feel better that way. I may just continue to float around for a bit, just reading and absorbing, and copying down recipes.
  • Hello and

Great attitude! You can do this. Glad you joined us; there is a great deal of support and encouragement here!
  • Hi there Great By 48,

It is nice to see someone else who is new. I just joined last night and I agree that this seems like a great resource. Why do it alone if you don't have to, you know?

I started working out and watching my calories over a week ago after switching anti-anxiety medication. My appetite was voracious and I just didn't feel like myself. I switched to something else and have lost some of the weight already. I hope to get back into a healthy eating mindset instead of eating fast food just because I am too tired to cook dinner.

Anyway, best of luck to you on your journey.

  • Welcome and good luck on your journey!
  • Hi, Great By 48,

Welcome! I'm pretty new here too and I am also doing a high-protein, low carb plan. There are a number of good plans for this type of weight loss plan and you should look around the forum and read lots so you can decide what will work best for you.

I was on Nutrisystem and lost a little weight but the food is too high in carbs for me so I never lost my craving for carbs. I find eating mostly protein helps me to feel full, not crave sweets and carbs and leaves me with lots of energy.

There are lots of companies with high protein, low carb products or you can just buy high protein items from the grocery store and make the meals. I tend to like WonderSlim the best for taste and high protein content but there are others even lower in carbs like Protidiet which many people who have had gastric bypass seem to use. I order from Diet Direct as I find their prices are very good and I get my order in about 3 business days.

Best of luck to you...you can do it, especially with this forum for support and information!
