Seeded Muscat Raisins

  • Hey y'all:

Does anyone in the States know of a source for seeded muscat raisins? My family has a traditional dark fruitcake that my dad makes every year for Christmas. The recipe was my grandmother's, and is a long-standing family recipe reportedly from Ireland. The primary fruit in the fruitcake are seeded muscat raisins.

Grocery stores do not carry these. Until recently, we have been able to order them online from the Sunmaid raisin store. However, my dad tells me that Sunmaid no longer carries them.

Does anyone here know of a source for seeded muscat raisins? Would like to be able to continue the tradition without just doctoring ordinary raisins with honey or molasses since that is definitely not the way grandma did it.

    Thanks!
  • Are muscatel raisins the same?

I found these on Amazon -

Thanks for the tip! I don't think they are the exact same thing - the muscats have seeds in them. They get deseeded by machine which makes a slit in the raisin which makes them gooey. But these might be closer to the right variety and I might have to try them...
