Restricted Alternate????

  • Hey guys!
I have enough non-restricted packets this week so I can wait until NEXT week's weigh-in but I am all out of restricted. Can I buy alternate bars somewhere? I was thinking about those ThinkThin bars they sell at Trader Joes since they are high in protein, but I don't want to ruin my weigh-in. Any suggestions?

PS. I am on week #3 and I am down 12 lbs total....woohoo!

    Thanks!!

Try the Pure Protein Bars. You can get them in any pharmacy chain or Target. I like the choc/peanut butter the best. Congrats on your great losses so far!
  • I think the atkins bars are ok. Just make sure when you are buying alternate bars that you find something that is comparable to the IP one's.

180 calories or under, 15 grams of protein, no more than 17 grams of carbs & 6 grams of sugar. Try to find something low fat also (6 grams or less).
  • the simply bar is really good I get mine from Costco
    cal 160 fat 3.5 carb 16 fibre 4 sugar 3 protein 16
I just had the lemon coconut yummy

I second that, I get mine at Walmart, GNC sells them too but they are the larger size and should be cut in half.

    Those sound good too.
  • Detour Bars from Costco are good too. 160 Calories, between 1-3 net carbs and 15gr of protein. They come in a box of 24, 3 different flavors and they taste really good especially the Peanut Butter Cream ones.
  • Out of restricted food
My first question would be, "How did you run out?" If you accidentally ate two a day for a few days, I think you need to check with your coach. I have not read anything that says we must eat one restricted a day. We are just limited to one a day. My gut feeling would be that you should not buy "alternative" restricted foods. Call or email your coach?

Some people just do better with the one restricted per day. Every body is different, and some bodies need that little extra bit of carbs. And because the restricted is often the "sweet treat" we are allowed, it can sometimes be the thing that keeps us from cheating. There are many alternative products that are equivalent to IP products, and when you're in a pinch it's good to know what they are in order to stay on plan if you get stuck. Knowledge is power!
