A Modest Achievment

  • I am 70 years old and not in love with exercise, but...I started walking in June. I have kept at it and continue to increase my speed and distance. I started out being able to do about ten minutes at a time. Now I can walk for over an hour at a respectable pace. I can climb around on the rocky hill behind our house. Maybe a month ago, I started doing the strength training exercises recommended for seniors by the CDC. I am awkward and uncoordinated, but I keep doing it.

Last night, I lay down in bed and felt a lump on the side of my hip. . I thought I had some weird injury or a tumor, but no, it was - ta da - a muscle! .
  • Yaaay that's so cool! Congratulations!
I noticed when I started running I gained a muscle on the top of my foot near where the foot meets the leg, and it was awesome. Funny how a little bit of something can make a difference. Keep it up!
  • Nice one!!!

  • gailr42,
I am so glad you are walking and doing the strength training.
    Keep up the good work!!!
  • way to go Gail!!!
  • Thanks for the encouragement! I hope I get to the point where I enjoy exercise. Right now, it is still "medicine" and really requires a huge amount of self-discipline.
