Go try on Halloween constumes.

I went last night with my friend to look at costumes. I followed the sizing charts on each individual package, yet when I tried them on they wouldn't even come close to zipping. I was crushed. THANK GOODNESS my friend is extremely thin and the sizes she would normally wear wouldn't come close to zipping for her either. If she wouldn't have been there to tell me that, I would have been a basketcase. I already feel like a fraud in the size I am, like it's a fluke, even though I know logically that's not true.

It's funny though, any time I really start feeling good about myself I have an experience like this. Sometimes I think I go out of my way to my myself feel bad.

I agree with John, the sizing means nothing when you look good, regardless. I'm sure the costumes looked awesome, I'd just take a Sharpie to the number on the tag and be on my way

I DO NOT believe the size tags on any clothing. Sizes aren't "true". Many manufacturers make their clothing smaller. My mom pointed this out to me when manufacturers start "outsourcing" where their clothing is made. True-ness in size accuracy went the way of the "Made in America" label.
Case in point, I have to a uniform at work. I had gotten 3 pairs of pants about 2-3 years ago. One pair is showing wear so I ordered a couple more pairs. I order the exact same size I am currently wearing, and they are very tight across the hip area, causing bunching.
I thought DID I GAIN MORE?? No, I couldn't have! I was still able to wear my older pairs. Turns out the company had moved their operations to yet another country! UGH!!

Moral to the story I guess is, let the way you feel, the numbers on YOUR scale/measuring tape/BMI & how those who KNOW you be your guide in how you are doing! I use size tags only as a guide any longer. I know in most cases I'll have to go up 1 maybe 2 sizes.

If it makes you feel better, the sizing on Halloween costumes is wrong for, mostly, everyone.

When buying one for my son, we always buy 1 size up. He normally wears an XS/S in boys, but in Halloween costumes and small is snug and he really needs a M. Keep in mind this is kids clothes where there's usually a lot more wiggle room with less variance than adult clothes.

Trust me, it's not you, it's them (the manufactuer's )!

They truly are wrong! I swear! I bought a teeny, tiny one and it is a medium. It barely fits in the torso and I am 5'2". Eyeroll! Don't feel badly! Just get something you like!

It's funny that wedding dresses, Halloween costumes, and swimsuits are the only things that haven't given in to vanity sizing.

my son who typically wears a size 7, sometimes 8 is just barely fitting into his size 8-10 costume and i thought i chose right by buying a bit bigger to fit over warm clothing

also i was given a pirate costume to wear from a friend who is heavier than me and said she used to wear it...i even eyeballed it and thought it would fit...NOPE cant zip it up then i saw that the tag read Small...which is odd because it's definitely NOT a small size either...weird

The halloween costumes they make for women are extremely small! And definitely not true to size. So please don't feel bad!

2 years ago I bought a costume last minute from a store that had a fitting room line all the way to the back of the store. I didn't want to wait an hour to try it on so to be safe, I bought a large and keep in mind, I was about your size, 150ish lbs and Im 5'6". I took it home and and while it fit in my waist and chest, it was way too small for my hips and lets just say, bending over in that costume was NOT going to be an option. Needless to say, I didn't wear it, and because of the store's no return policy, I now own a costume I probably won't even get to wear even when I hit goal.

I'll be making my own costume this year. dont feel bad, you have made amazing progress and halloween costumes werent made for women with curves!
