Homemade soups in P1?

  • Hi! First, I want to say thanks to all for this awesome site! I've learned so much just by reading through the different threads. I am on my 3rd day of P1 and due to financial reasons, I am using alternative products. Still trying to follow the protocol, though. My dh and I are big soup eaters. Just wondered if anyone has anything to offer regarding homemade soups as a way to jazz up those veggies? Thanks again for all the great support!
  • I wonder about that too, since I would love to make some chicken stock and keep in the freezer to make veggie soup. My coach told me 'no' to any chicken broth, home made or ready made.

I know some people on this board do use it, though.
  • Grrrrrrrrrrr
  • !~
Homemade broth is fine - just go easy on salting it, don't use any forbidden veggies and skim the fat. I ONLY use homemade broth.

There's no reason at all why you can't make a veggie soup with IP approved veggies and homemade broth.

Rainbow also has a couple of great recipes for bisque/puree soups that are IP friendly in her Mix'n in the Kitch'n thread - I LOVE making rutabaga in the crockpot and then using the leftovers to make her Maple Rutabaga Bisque - it's my substitute for the butternut squash soup I miss!
  • the only time I've done it I used College Inn reduced sodium Chicken broth (0/0/0) then chopped up celery, mushrooms, leeks put them all in the crock pot then added a package of the Miracle noodles and spices (garlic, basil, thyme, celery seed pepper and the IP salt) It was pretty tasty but I'd love more recipes too!
  • there are tons of recipe threads but I don't think you can go wrong by checking out the "fun with purees" thread. I make "fridge bottom soup" by just boiling up any veggies in my fridge and throwing them in the blender. Haven't been disappointed yet. You can make it thinner or thicker by adding water. I love the purees for thick soups. My hubby likes "chunky vegs" so I just add some extra veggies to his. By adding your "IP broc soup" you can easily make a complete mail
  • I have used Low sodium chicken broth and veggie broth. I usually will put it in with a tomato basil packet and crock pot all my veggies for the day.. It is yummy.. What alternative products are you currently using?
  • Thanks everyone for the great ideas. I think some good soup here and there will help us endure. Will definitely check out the recipe threads.

Sklandon: So far, I've just been using the Premier Nutrition rtd shakes and Pure Protein bars from Costco. Dh hates the bars, so I need to find a few alternate choices for him. This is day 4 so we have a loooong way to go!
