Can I Have Some Help?

  • So, I'm new here and even though I have been trying to lose weight for a while, it just isnt coming off. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in Feb 2011 and they removed my thyroid using radioactive iodine. I've been suffering with having complications with my Synthroid medicine ever since and they still are trying to fix it. I count calories, 1300-1800 allowed in my body every day. One day a week I'm allowed to have 2000 calories. I always burn at least 3000 calories a day, burning between 300 to 2100 calories. I see my specialist this friday to see what else we can do, but sometimes I get so upset that I don't know what to do anymore. I love to exercise, hence the name "Exercise Junkie", but now its come to the point where I build muscle and never lose any weight. Can anyone give me any tips to maybe intensify some results? I'd also like to hear from someone who also has no thyroid and has to depend on their medication, see their results.
  • OK, I'm not a doctor and I don't know anything about Graves disease, etc but I have heard others hear say that while weight loss is slower for those with thyroid issues, they can still lose a bit. Plus, when I look at your height & weight & how much you are (not) eating, and the heavy amount of exercise you are doing -- I am not really surprised that you aren't losing anything.

WHY? You are doing an awful lot of exercise: that can hold water-weight and burn so many calories that you are not getting enuff to sustain your body each day. Who figured out how much you should eat? I think you may need about 2000+ a day or more with all the exercise you are doing. Maybe try upping your calories for a week or so and see what happens.

What have you got to lose, but fat & weight?
  • i dont know anything about your health problems, but are you sure you're accurately charting your calories? when i very first started trying to lose weight several years back i did a lot of "guesstimating". its amazing how off you can be!

My doctor did and hes seen my records. He told me he doesnt want me going anywhere near 2000 calories, but I just feel like everything I'm doing is screwing me up.

I'm super accurate. I write everything down, doc gets mad if I dont and I'm seriously a freak calorie counter lol
  • So, I just saw my Thyroid Specialist Doctor yesterday and he said that maybe I should do a more low fat diet and eat more complex carbohydrates, I think it might be worth a try.
