Exchange Confusion

  • I'm using an exchange program and I'm not sure about how to figure out exchanges for some things that are a mixture of items, like pre-packaged dinners.

For example, the new Special K Flatbreads. I'm assuming 1 dairy for the cheese, 2 proteins for the egg and sausage, but I'm not sure if it would be 1 or 2 grains. And I'm not really sure if I'm figuring the dairy and proteins correctly either. I checked the product website, but didn't find any exchange information.

Are there any handy guides or tips for figuring this out? I really wish they would list exchanges on packages since there are a lot of diets that use them.

    Thanks.
  • If you google "calculating exchanges from nutrition label" you will find webpagest that explain the process.

Also, the book "Exchanges for All Occasions" (at least the 4th edition) has instructions at the end of the book (in an appendix called something like calculating exchanges from nutrition labels).
  • Thank you!
