Just when things were going so well.......

  • Oh pooh. I am sure I have bored you all with my kind of cool story about breaking my leg falling part way down an Icelandic mountain?? Actually I dislocated my knee cap and fractured bits off the back......Anyhow whilst waiting to start our game of badminton 10 days ago I sat on a very low bench and felt something in my right leg go ping.....no really it went ping.
Have carried on walking and exercising and generally trying to ignore it but the pain has been getting worse and worse and I was up half of last night because I couldn't find a comfy position and it is really swollen.
I can put up with the kind of wear and tear pain and stiffness of the other knee but this is SOMETHING ELSE!!
So bimbled off to the doc who reckons I might have torn a cartilage or agrees with my theory that I have torn scar tissue.
Need an xray...mri and referral to an Orthopaedic bl**dy surgeon depending on results. I AM REALLY REALLY PI$$ED OFF!! (can you tell?????)
Please people help me stay on track. I am so enjoying my exercise and healthy eating I am dead scared that I might allow this to derail me.
Going to post this on the over 300lb forum as well...I need all the help I can get!!
  • MOUNTAINWALKER ~ NO, this won't derail you from your progress -- you can still lose despite all this if you keep to your eating plan. I know what I speak of -- I also had/have a badly injured right knee (which is in the process of a long, slow healing). Twice, my other leg was injured too (broken calf & torn inside knee). I am still losing even with walking with two canes, so it can be done.

Yes, I have had some months that I just maintained, but that's OK too. That's good practice anyways. So just wanted to encourage you that all is not lost. Make your #1 goal to maintain and goal #2 to continue on plan as usual. You can do this ...
  • Please don't give up! You've come so far already. Things in life happen and sometimes we have to just deal with them, but the same things can happen when we make it to goal...are we just going to unravel all of the work we've accomplished because of it? No! You're gonna keep going because you're doing such a sensational job. And you'll still lose plenty. Just think of this as an obstacle to over come. Keep going!
  • Just adding in my three cents - you can totally do this! You know that whatever is wrong with the knee, weight loss will make the healing easier, and even if you cannot get your endorphins in from the intense workouts, you can find other ways to challenge yourself. Maybe focus a bit on upper body? Or ask the family to hide their favorite treats from you while you are going through this? Hopefully it is just a bad sprain, but considering what you've recovered from, you can overcome anything!
