new and ready to get down to business!

  • Hi everyone!
I am 28 years old and am my all-time highest weight of 388. I was around very briefly about 5 years ago when I was hovering at 330. In the past 5 years I have had some major life changing events. I moved away from home into my own apartment 2 hours away into the "big city." I changed careers and became a pastry chef. And finally I met the love of my life and we are getting married in 2 months.
My fiance is also majorly overweight. We are actually around the same size and last week we both decided to take this weight loss seriously. We started by going grocery shopping and buying healthier food. And we bought an appropriate scale for our weight. We decided to start by counting calories and keeping food journals to see where we need work.
Anyway...thanks for reading! I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys and offering my support!
  • Welcome! You are going to do great!!!!
  • Welcome! This place has helped me so much when things have gotten tough, and as you can see I have a long way to go, but it does get a tinsy bit easier as time goes on. You'll do amazing! Just never give up!
  • Thanks guys! I think having such a vast community, not to mention all the infomation here, is going to be such a huge help
  • It's brilliant that your fiancée is willing to make the journey with you. I know exactly where you are, and losing weight will help you with the long days of working as a chef, for sure! Though I imagine working as a pastry chef would be pretty tough while trying to lose weight. Late summer is the perfect time for a foodie to start, too, since there are so many delicious fresh vegetables available almost everywhere you turn. It makes healthy eating feel less like a set of restrictions and more like a gourmet choice you've made for yourself.

    Welcome and good luck!
  • I've worked as a pastry chef for 4 years now and some of the longer days are really rough. Mostly on my feet. Nothing else really bothers me...yet. And actually, to be honest, when you're around cake and cookies and brownies etc.. day in and day out they really lose their appeal. My problem areas are more ice cream, candy, and salty foods.
  • Hi msbiscotti

Good luck to you and your fiancée. I'm lucky my hubby is also trying to lose weight with me as well. It helps a lot to have a buddy.
  • Yes it does! We are very good at keeping each other on track and accountable without feeling nagged.
After one week I am down 4.2# and FI is down 11#
