Starbucks 'Iced Unsweet Passion Tea' - legal?!?!

  • Ok so the friendly folks at Starbucks told me there is absolutely no sugar in the 'Unsweet Iced Passion Tea', so I have drank a small one here and there with one splenda (since i dont have the AM coffee).

I looked at the website by chance and it says its 80 calories! But it says 80 calories for both the sweet and unsweet, so maybe its a mistake.

Anyone know???? I'm staying away for now, but dang it is yummy, so that may be my answer right there.

They did say its just straight brewed tea with no additives, but I'm not convinced now.

  • make your own passion tea at home - cheaper - way cheaper and then you know for sure what's in it too. I just found an iced tea bag by Tazo for passion fruit iced tea. Love iced herbal teas in summer.
  • It is straight brewed tea, though they do add Classic Syrup to it to sweeten it before they shake it (part of the recipe). Normally they ask if you wanted it sweetened or un-sweetened. You can just request it unsweetened when you order it and they will just add the ice and shake it with no syrup.

    This.

If you ask for it unsweetened it has absolutely no sugar in it, just the tea and water - same tea that you can buy from the store (and ice... you could ask for it with a sugar free syrup (like Vanilla) if you want it sweetened, I think that fits into IP).
  • Thanks everyone! I am going to take your recommendation and make it at home for sure! But for those 'starbucks meetings' where the boss buys - hey I'm going to let him buy me one they make!
  • During the warm months, which in Austin is most of the year, I live on that stuff. As everyone mentioned, just make sure you get it unsweetened, and then just add your own Stevia or Splenda.

The Tazo tea is what Starbucks uses anyway The just brew it double strength which is why they add water.
  • If you want something super yummy, add some of the Mio lemonade to it. Then you get the sweet and the lemon of the passion tea lemonade without any of the guilt!
  • the calories is from the classic syrup I order a venti passion iced tea with sugar free vanilla syrup and then I add a little mio lemonade to it and get light ice and its 0/0/0 love it
  • Since I live in the land of Starbucks.... I live on that stuff. AMAZING....
