Howdy!

  • Hello from Texas!

I'm Rachel. I'm 27 and a full time student. I was searching the net for some weight loss support and...voila! here I am. It looks as though I hit the jackpot. I've been reading through many threads and this seems like a great place to be.

I have been overweight for as long as I can remember really...and I'm ready for that not to be the case. Last year I had my annual checkup at planned parenthood and the doctor listed all the horrible things I hate about myself and said that they might be due to PCOS. She recommended I lose at least 70 pounds. One year later and I am only down about 20. I've been hovering at this weight for a while.

My main problem is keeping my motivation and momentum. I have the bad habit of looking at the scale and if I don't see results, I get discouraged and sad and I stop whatever I have been working on. I also don't have a very strong support system. Has anyone seen that Progresso commercial? The one where the lady says "they fit!" and the guy is like "...okay..." It's kind of like that.

I have also realized that I should probably start a diet, but i'm just not even sure where to start. I have started using myfitnesspal again to help me count calories, so I guess that's a first step.

Well thank you for reading. I look forward to meeting people and joining in on forum chatter.

  • Hi Rachel. I'm new here too. I thought I'd say hi because although I'm originally from Alberta, Canada, I recently got married and have been living in Texas since May of this year. I started at 230 lbs. 5 weeks ago and am currently at 221 using calorie counter. My doctors have been telling me to lose weight for years...especially after being diagnosed with PCOS at 26-yrs-old and then later Type 2 Diabetes at 32 (I am now 39 turning 40 next month). Good luck in your journey.
