How do you weigh pasta?

  • I have some pasta and the serving size is 2 oz. So do I weigh it dry or cooked? There's a big difference in the amount and I don't want to be eating more than I think I am.
  • that's actually one i've never figured out.

to cook 1 single serving, i would weigh 2oz dry.

but like, how do you portion cooked pasta? haha
  • I measure it cooked.
  • Two oz. of dried pasta is one cup cooked. That is a serving for one person. Either you can weigh it dried and then cook, or just cook some and then measure out one cup cooked.
  • Depends on where you're getting your calorie information. Generally the calorie count on the box is for dry pasta (so you'ld weigh before you cook it).

However, you can easily look up the calories for cooked pasta online (or in books...).

Dry weight is more accurate, because cooked pasta calorie counts can depend on how long you cooked the pasta, the shape of the pasta, and also whether you're measuring by weight or volume.
  • Ok, I'm going by then info on the pasta box. It makes sense now, thanks.
  • I go by the box and always weigh dry.
