The Global Fat Scale

  • I found this over on the BBC website and thought it was interesting. You enter into the site your age, gender, height, weight, and country. It will then tell you, based on your BMI, where you rank among others in your gender/age category in your country and globally. It also tells you which country you are most like based on your age/gender/BMI. Another cool fact it pops out is if everyone in the world has the same BMI as you, how much lighter the earth would be.

It actually made me feel pretty good today. Based on my numbers it said:

You have a lower BMI than 83% of females aged 30-44 in your country.
You have a lower BMI than 55% of females aged 30-44 in the world.
If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would remove 5,119,138 tonnes fromthe total weight of the world's population.
You're most like someone from Philippines (Compared with other females aged 30-44 in Philippines).

If you want to try it, it's at:

  • I fell in the age range of 15-29, I'm 28... Apparently I have a higher BMI than 91% of women in my range... nah really? Higher than a 15 year old.... not really sure they divided the ranges up very well.
  • That is interesting. For country reference, I'm in Canada. I get a different country percentile if I say I'm from the US or UK.

You have a lower BMI than 74% of females aged 30-44 in your country
You have a lower BMI than 59% of females aged 30-44 in the world
You're most like someone from Gambia*
  • How cool! I have a lower BMI than 83 % of the females in my age group in this country! Who knew!!! Thanks for posting this!
  • Sad trombone for me! It says, "If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would add 56,003,075 tonnes tothe total weight of the world's population"

It does give me something to work towards though. At my goal weight, I would remove 12,221,991 tonnes from the world's total weight. I'd also be more like someone from Gambia (which I had to look up :S)
  • Ha, Sonnyrae, that is funny. Where the heck is Gambia? Think how hot we would all be there!
  • well I didn't like that one bit! lol, apparently I'm fatter than anyone else on earth. "You have a higher BMI than 100% of females aged 30-44 in your country" same for the world How do they figure I am higher than 100%? I know there is someone fatter than me. I will have to revisit this when I am at my goal weight LOL
  • yeah...wow, that was depressing. I am gonna go eat a sald now with lots of chichen breast. Ugh
  • I am now stressed tha **** out.

lol happy to make you laugh
  • Yeah thats hard to relate to it is the global fat scale so maybe those from Asian countries where the women usually have lower BMIs to those who are underweight in developing countries show how polar opposite we are in the US and Uk etc. as most people I know 18-29 are at least overweight.
