Beans and bloating.

  • I was wondering if all beans bloat you out. Kidney beans bloat me out. Is it ok to eat 3/4 cups in one meal just wondering if anyone knows.

    Thanks
  • Hey there, I haven't eaten beans in a while. I remember they used to make me a bit gassy if I didn't eat them regularly (which went away if I continued to eat them), but I don't recall feeling bloated. I usually ate something like 1 cup per meal, and (once the gas subsided) it was completely fine! So I'd say 3/4 cups is absolutely fine. It sounds like you're getting fibre and an entire host of nutrients. Just be sure you're also drinking enough water to help things along.
  • I drink on average of 4 litres a day. What do you mean by nutrients.

    Thanks
  • What I was referring to is that beans contain a variety of nutrients (minerals, protein, etc.) in addition to fibre, so they're a pretty good choice of food.
  • Beans are hard to digest, hence why they make people bloated and gassy. I would stay away from them.

Try black beans. I'm a lot less gassy when I eat those and there is also a product called Beano that you can take befpre eating them. It is available here in Canada in pharmacies. It helps get rid of the gassiness that comes with beans but you have to take it before eating them. I eat a half cup of beans when I do eat them but I am a 5'3" female so that amount is good for me. I am assuming you are a male and men can eat larger portions.
