Hi, my name is Michelle and I am 31 years old and was just recently diagnosed with high BP. I am way too young for this. My PCP (since I was a kid) put me on bp meds but I decided to seek out another physician. I am scheduled for an MRI to look at the arteries around my kidneys. She wants to rule out the underlying issues that cause high BP, which is good, that's why I switched physicians. On December 22, 2000 I went in for a recheck on my bp, in October it was borderline and the nurse suggested that I have it rechecked. Well, over the course of two months, my father was in and out of the hospital with heart problems. So, I went for a recheck on the 22nd of December and my bp was 156/110!!! I was immediately put on meds and have been going once a month ever since. At first I was put on 20 mg and now I'm on 30 mg. My BP was 142/94 on Wednesday. I am about 70-80 lbs overweight and know that I NEED to lose weight for my health. This has really scared me! I'm trying to change my eating habits all at once and was doing really well for a while, losing 15 lbs in two months. I stopped eating meat, no caffeine, no alcohol, more grains, veggies and fruits. I also started an exercise routine at the local gym. But, I'm starting to slip. I think I may have changed too mnay things all at once. My short term goal is to lose 5-8 lbs before March 30th, my follow-up with my PCP after my MRI. I don't want to be on meds at all, but I also know that right now I need to be on then, until I can lose some weight and get more active. I'm sooo glad that I found this thread. I have a lot of fears about high blood pressure, which I'm sure I will share at a later date. I'm sorry to ramble on but will be posting more later. Thanks to everyone for listening.
