What house fly repellants actually work? other than the jar trick

  • (the one where you fill a jar with bait and they all fester in there)
    lavender? basil?
I am a clean person, but on the super hot days, I always find one fly, and since I live in a tiny nyc apt (garbage cans are right in front of the apt) even one fly can be SO gross and annoying, esp around dinner time bleeeeeeehhhhh

I read the tips online, but they are all general article tips - did anyone personally try a repellent that worked? I'll buy any plant ugh
  • I had a pitcher plant a few years ago that ate flies, that worked a treat. It died in the end, I suspect of hunger, when I got the cats and they started eating all the flies instead.
  • Omg...I totally understand.

I have been using the Jar and Vinegar trick. Seems to work pretty well.
  • OMG! thank you for asking this!!!

Since its been getting warmer, flies seem to pinpoint my front door to fly through the second it opens. I need something to keep them out.

I've read about a penny in a baggie filled with water. What is the jar and vinegar thing?
