It's just about finding what works for you. You might have to try a few different things...for example, calorie counting on its own did not work for me, however, calorie counting in conjuntion with Weight Watchers has been working great for some reason.
I too did not like having to count points, calories, carbs, etc...but after trying different plans where there was less counting involved, I learned that unfortunately, I need the structure of counting.
It's pretty much just a trial and error thing. It's easy to get swept up in something that seems to work fast (crash diets), but it's all about finding a system that you can stick to for the rest of your life.
