Variety is the spice of life :)

  • Since I started losing weight, I seem to have become more adventurous and experimental with food. A lot more so than before.

For example, before I disliked all seafood (even fish fingers), olives, mushrooms, tea and coffee, most types of nuts, parsnips, fruit had to be a certain ripeness or I'd claim it was horrible and wouldn't eat it, scrambled eggs. Unfortunately egg white still seems to be a real problem for me, but hey! we all have to have something lol. Now I love all of those things.

Has anyone else found this has happened to them? Whats been your favourite foodie discovery?
  • Too many to list!! It really does help open your mind a little bit. I would have never tried spaghetti squash until people started touting the nutritional value and I've discovered it's pretty versatile... and delicious! Who knew?
  • Nuts! And since I've been eating nuts I hardly ever crave chocolate. Not sure why I didn't eat them before.. I had it in my head that if I was going to hit calorie rich foods I might as well have something like cake instead of nuts haha
  • I found it interesting that I read somewhere that people are all about acquired tastes. Alcohol to get a buzz, coffee to stay awake, cigs for the nicotine. But when it comes to vegetables and healthy foods, people are not willing to change their tastes for better health. I found myself eating raw bok choy the other day, and enjoying it. I have always liked veggies, but something like this would have always had to be cooked before. Opening up your palate is definitely a great thing for more variety. Sometimes I would rather just not eat than have to try and come up with something to eat that's on plan. When there's a wide variety of choices, that makes it a lot easier.
  • I suddenly can sit down and snack on asparagus like potato chips. Who knew? I used to hate it.
  • Over the past few years I have been able to stomach more food, but I think it's just because I am growing up (I'm almost 21 now). I still don't like many foods. But I also have always like random foods, like califlour and parsnips and bamboo shoots and bbq tofu. But I HATE tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, most fish. I only eat beef, pork (sometimes), chicken, ham, turkey, your standard meets. But I can't stomach anything else. I remember as a kid I had a problem swallowing food, like even Pizza, the cheese would get stuck in my throat and I'd have to pull it out (sorry..). Sometimes I hate the taste, sometimes its the texture. I only recently decided I can eat onions if its in moderation. I loved salad as a kid, but couldn't eat lettuce on sandwiches for soooo long! I can't attribute it to working out, because until recently, I haven't been working out.
