Atkins starting to worry junk food industry.

    Some interesting quotes:

They claim Atkins is falsely disparaging food groups that serve as a foundation for American eating.

Yes, and the foundation for American obesity.

The council says obesity is not specifically tied to carbohydrates but is the simple result of lazy overeaters.

Reminds me of the "Cigarettes do not cause cancer, because you can't prove it" logic.

And after decades of rejecting Atkins's theories, some new scientific research studies, including work by Harvard University, have started lending credence to his ideas.

Good thing that Harvard isn't a widely recognized university
  • thanks for finding this... very very interesting reading. what's completely not mentioned is the increase in what's been called metabolic syndrome or syndrome x. it's characterized by abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, and lipid abnormalities. it's been linked to diets high in carbs, and raises the risk of heart attacks at each lipid level from low to high, including normals.

the prescription: diet and exercise, but which diet? from what i've read, it's one that pretty much bans processed grains, and white potatoes and white rice, and pasta.

oh well. the battle rages on .
  • Very interesting article!!!
  • It's funny how the uneducated and uninformed public can pass judgement on an eating plan that they don't understand. The sad fact is, many people read the garbage and take it as gospel. The very people that could probably benefit from adopting the principles. oh well give it another couple of years and it will be accepted as fact, Like Vegetarians, and the High Carb, Low Fat people.
