I haven't had a period in like 7 months. Almost 2 weeks ago I got my period. The flow hasn't been too heavy. I change my pad maybe every 2 hours. However I've been passing these large blood clots. They are like the size of small chicken livers.
I don't feel weak or anything so I'm not losing too much blood.
Has anyone else had this issue?
If I don't stop bleeding in the next few days I may have to go to the doctor. But I'm hoping it will stop by then.
I've had clots that big once? Maybe twice. Usually it's smaller -- but clotting is not the usual from what I understand.
The "usual" is bright red, new blood. But what would I know? Mine have always been irregular, and the clots of older blood congealing happen. But it is very small. Not like chicken livers!
Talk to you doc -- that much merits a mention. That's bigger than a quarter so bring it up.
GL!

I don't have pcos, so I can tell you what is normal for me. If I do have clots they're usually no bigger than my thumb nail-usually they're the size of a pencils eraser though (if I have them at all). Id say get checked by your doctor just to make sure there isn't something else going on. I hope it improves!
I have PCOS and have been on metformin for 12 years. Thanks to the medicine, I had fairly regular cycles...but every other cycle would contain HUGE clots. Far bigger than what you describe (I'd say golf ball size). I talked to my ob/gyn about it several times and he wasn't concerned since I had no other symptoms or issues like excessive menstrual cramping or a history of fibroids or endometriosis. After I was done with childbearing, I ended up having an endometrial ablation to cauterize my uterine lining...recommended by my doctor to relieve the massive clots. It worked and while many women experience a complete loss of menstrual bleeding after having it done, I simply got a normal flow period after that, but still monthly bleeding...but 3-4 tampons/day on my heavy days instead of 2-3 tampons an hour. So big improvement.
Not sure exactly what your issue is, but thought I'd share my little story so you'd feel a little relieved that some clotting is not necessarily uncommon. Definitely talk to your doctor if you're still passing large clots. But if you haven't had your period in 7 months, then more than likely you have a thick build up of uterine tissue to pass, so your period may be longer than usual. Good luck!!
I don't have any menstrual issues since I've lost the weight *knock on wood*
But, back when I did, I had clots like you describe. My doctor gave me an RX for 800mg of Ibuprofen to be taken only during my period. It cut down the bleeding considerably! I had been taking Midol, which has aspirin - a blood thinner!! so that was not helping things!
If you can tolerate ibuprofen, maybe ask your doctor about it.
I hope you feel better soon.
I have clots too with my PCOS, I always have. usually they are small, but sometimes likes grapes or more. I think it is fairly normal, but talk to your Dr if concerned.
I get then too. I think I am so used to it that I am not phased by it. I'm glad you brought it up. Maybe I will mention it to my doctor.
I get them as well. Sometimes MUCH larger than what you describe. Often times it's been after I haven't had my period for several months and it's "old" blood that was built up on the walls of the uterus.Usually they are very very dark. The docs say it's nothing to be too concerned about unless you are using more than two tampons an hour. Which I have. When one of those clots pass though, no tampon matters. On two different occassions it was so heavy like this that I couldn't even leave the house. No tampon or pad would contain it and I ended up having a D&C both of those times. For the most part though, I think what you are describing isn't anything to be too worked up about considering you were so long without your period.
I have PCOS, have a 33 day cycle every month and I get these all the time. Size of a golf ball or walnut, sometimes even bigger.
