PCOS Yazmin? will it help?

  • I just got put on Yazmin and have read up on it online YIKES! there are some crazy stories. Im taking it for BC but also to help with PCOS. Id like to know if any of you have taken this and how it went for you. ill give you some background info on me to see if you have any advice. Im 32 mom of a 2 YO that i accidently conceived a few mo after finding out i have PCOS. I have the extra hair on my face (couldnt hate it more) and im a whopping 250 at 5'2. ive been having low blood sugar in the AM lately and get sick to my stomach when i begin to eat. periods are in normal 28-30 day range. weight loss is very hard for me and weight gain is a breeze. I want to figure out a game plan to help me take care of this and dont feel that confident in my DR (small place not many options) I am open to natural remedies. any info or help is welcome. thanks in advance!
  • I was used to take it, and I loved it (short, effectively skippable periods; perfect skin), but I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS (though I suspect I might have it), so I can't help on that front. I did like it, though. Never had any side effects.
  • I don't have official evidence or anything, but I always found that the various birth control pills I used to be on messed with me. Once I started using metformin for PCOS, that really helped me lose weight. Very common treatment for PCOS.
  • Never took that one. But it's supposed to help with PCOS high androgens.

    YMMV
    A.
  • i take the generic of yasmin, and have for a few years off and on. i have never had any side effects, other than the positive ones. it makes it easier for me to lose weight, it makes my periods shorter and lighter, it eases the PMS symptoms, and it keeps my skin generally clear. if the stories scare you, try talking to your doctor or a pharmacist about your concerns and ask them questions! that's what they get paid for.

Whats your doseage on the metfomin?
  • I took yasmin last year for 5 months. it was fantastic. it regulated my periods. i lost 18 lbs.

i went off of it though because i was too scared of the risk of blood clots (which all birth control pills carry that risk). i do miss being on yasmin though because my periods are all wacky again and i put all the weight i lost back on plus 20lbs.

I used to be on Yasmin before I knew I had PCOS.

I had some nausea and a very long period in the first month. But after that, I responded quite well to it.

I maintained my weight, and made my periods light and predictable. I stopped because I was put on migraine meds, which may interact with BCP. But I stopped migraine meds. I'm not sure which contributed to my weight gain - nortriptyline and nadolol or my PCOS. They both coincided at the time of diagnosis.
  • I was on it. I had some dizziness at first but with drinking lots of water I got over it. I'd been on its generic, Ocella for about 3 years and still had occasional dizziness/vertigo. The pharmacy switched me to Zarah and I have had no side effects and normal cycling. I have slightly lessened cramping and less acne, but it's done nothing much for the excess hair, sadly.
  • I used YAZ (very similar to yasmin) to help with my PMDD (I do not have PCOS)... However, I have stopped taking it in fear of all the side effects. I took it for a year and I never once had any type of side effects and it worked wonders on helping with my PMDD, but I personally decided the risks out weigh the benefits in my case.
