I have a question about hitting a plateau..

  • I've not hit one yet (and hopefully no time soon), but my question is, even if you don't lose any pounds, do you still lose inches?
  • Yes you can still lose inches! When/if you plateau, keep eating healthy and exercise! Your body will catch up with the effort.
  • Yes, it is possible to still be losing inches when you have reached your weight loss plateau. But, I think you should also know that there are many ways to still continue losing weight even when you have reached this stage. One great example is with the help of resistance exercises but I would suggest trying out different things and seeing what works for you.
  • Plateaus will drive you crazy. My best advice is to trust in the calorie deficit and the weight and the inches will take care of themselves over time.
  • Your weight can get "stuck" and you can still lose inches.

When I was 136 pounds I was stuck there for over three weeks but went from a size 8 to a 4. then I dropped 5 pounds very quickly.
  • I have been on a scale/weight plateau since December!!!! But I have been taking pictures and notice significantly how my body is changing. Finally this week I have been back in the 180's again so I'm hoping I finally broke it!
  • I've also been plateaued since December... but only a very small loss in inches for me over that time.

    It's driving me nutty!
  • Kirsteng, I increased my cardio the last week and made sure I stuck to plan. It seemed to have broke my plateau. I was going between 190-193 and finally weighed in at 187 this morning and 188 yesterday so it's happening. Check both aspects, and if your eating on plan increase your cardio, or cycle your calories. Good luck! It's almost like you have trick your body to let go of the fat!
  • I do the same thing, Inside. My body is NUTSO and gets comfortable at certain weights. 248 was KILLER to break past, 221, too. 200, OMG DIE, lol... I'm a very slow loser, so sometimes I feel like I'm always on one, but I know what my calories are and I know (sorta) what I'm burning thanks to my fitbit, so I know I'm okay. I just keep going and it slowly happens. I do know though, when I'm on those plateaus, I get more 'you've lost more!' compliments, so I know I've gone down inches. When I was at 202, I was in a solid 14, and here today at 193, I sit in very loose 12's. I'm an apple shape, though, with a long torso and short legs. I'm 5'7" and I wear a short legnth pant, lol.

In all my randomness, my point got lost, HAH. The best advice I can give is to KEEP GOING. Soon enough, when your body is ready, it'll come off. Pay the scale less mind, measure yourself too.
  • I, too, have been on a plateau since December. Here is the good news to OP - I have lost 4.5" off my waist, 1.5" off hips, etc. You can still lose the inches as long as you are holding to what you know is right to do - eventually the scale catches up. The body takes "adjustment" periods on this journey sometimes... the trick is, not to let frustration derail you and make you lose sight of all the progress you made to that point
