Menopause, Stress, and 40lbs

  • I found this site while searching the web for a discussion about people trying to lose weight. I've been 30-40lbs overweight for about 5 years now and I just can't seem to get motivated to do anything about it. The very thought of dieting and exercise makes me want to sit on the couch, watch TV, and eat a pan of brownies. I just need to get started.
  • I hear you, sister, boy do I hear you.

I lost a bunch of weight in 2010, most of it before i started menopause and losing weight was harder for me once my TOM started stopping and the hot flashes started up.

For me, weight loss was all about giving up junk food and not so much about exercise. I could sit on the sofa all day and probably still lose weight if I just stay away from the brownies, candy bars, cookies, ice cream, and, well, you get the idea.... On the other hand, it's much easier to not eat all the junk food I can reach if I'm doing something other than just sitting around.

Poke around this site a bit and you'll find plenty of helpful people and maybe some motivation too. In the end you gotta bring the majority of the motivation to the party but this is a good place to get started!

    Welcome and good luck!
  • I am in menopause as well and have unreal cravings. I want to get down into the 160s again.
  • I know I may be a bit young to start menopause.... but I think I may be going through perimenopause (I'm 39 but my mom went through menopause when she was 48). I've read that it can take up to 10-15 years (and as little as a few months) before everything stops.

I've got cravings that I never had when I was younger.... and I know sleeping is a big factor in weight loss. But what happens when you can't get enough sleep and then rely on junk foods to get you through the day?! Weight gain!!!

I was always active before but I'm tired, unmotivated, and just sit around on my days off on the internet as well.

I just want to get healthy before it gets even harder to do it
