Ppl who aren't active-how many cals to lose/maintain?

  • I'm a little nervous about asking, because I guess this is where I confess I should be more active, but I just have to ask - any other umm not-so-active people around? How many cals do you consume? Thanks!
  • It's going to vary depending on your height/weight.

I am pretty sedentary, but am losing on 1600 calories a day. Every week, I update my weight on myplate & it adjusts my calories downward.
  • I am new but I think I can help with this one. According to my trainer, my body burns 1800 cals per day doing nothing(sitting at my desk). So if I wanted to stay at the weight I am I could eat that many cals per day. I am trying to lose 100 lbs in a year(about 2lbs a week). I work off about 400-600 cals per day at the gym(some days I do an hour and some days I do an hr and a half). She also said I need to eat about 1600 cals. You can lose weight without exercise but it is soooo much harder. To burn 1 cal you need to burn 3500 cals. So even with my workouts and eating less calories I still only lose about 2-3lbs a week. I know getting active sucks. Every day that I have to get up and go to the gym I don't wanna. But, then I don't wanna be fat anymore either. Maybe you could start with just a little exercise? I started out doing Just Dance3 with my girls for 15 mins a day before I joined the gym. About 3-4 songs is all it took and by the end of that 15mins my hair would be wet.

I hope I have at least helped a little.
  • I know I should be more active, but I'm quite sedentary as well. I zig zag my calories - some days I eat 1800 and some days I'll eat 1200 - the result being an average of 1400 cals a week.
  • I lose on 1200 calories regardless of whether I exercise or not. Exercise does give it a slight speed boost, though.
  • I am less active than ever and lose on 1600 or lower.
  • I'm losing on 1,600-1,800 cals. I will eat 1,800 calories on days that I have good workouts at the gym or If it's a special occasion or something. I'm 5'6" and 208 pounds and I'm lightly active.

Try tapes at home! I hate working out too but I started with a walk 4 miles at home tape and I really enjoy it now. I make the gym whenever I can (usually 2-3 times a week) and I don't put pressue on myself. I'd much rather work out for an hour a day and be able to eat a few more calories
  • I average (some days none, some days a whoosh) 0.3 tenths of a pound per day eating 1200-1300 calories per day. That's with me hovering somewhere between completely sedentary and lightly active on a day to day basis at about 200 pounds.

Punch in your stats and see what ballpark it puts you in.

  • re:
    Around 1200 a day.

    .
  • I eat about 1400-1450/day, and i've been losing about 1-2lbs per week. Exercise is minimal, a half hour (heavy intensity, tho) cardio about 2-3x/week. exercise is changing for me, tho. On days that I exercise I sometimes eat 200-300 cals more, depending on my appetite. The main thing is to get an estimate using a calorie counter of what you burn/day with no activity, and lower that number by at least 500 to see a loss of 1lb/week. exercise will make the losses come faster, and make your body look and feel better too! great for mood improvements also :-)

I was told that zig zagging works better for most people. Guess we will see because I plan on trying it this week.
