Hello from San Diego

  • Hi - my name is Jess and I'm from San Diego. I've lost 45lbs since July 2011. I'm a breast cancer survivor (Stage 2, pr/er+ HER2-) and had a mastectomy in July 2011. I've had two other related surgeries since then (the most recent in December 2011) with another reconstructive surgery in July 2012. I was fortunate to catch the breast cancer early on and am spared the rigors of chemotherapy or radiation, but I'm on Tamoxifen for the next five years. Overall, I'm feeling pretty good - it took a life threatening illness to wake me up about my weight, and I'm determined to lost the remaining 40lbs by the end of summer. I'd been complacent about my weight for far too long and it may well have had an influence on my developing breast cancer. But I'm feeling pretty good right now. I just want to keep my forward momentum and continue with healthier lifestyle habits.
  • Congrats on your weight loss, and for beating cancer! Amazing Welcome to 3fc!
  • Thank you, Rainydays. I've been very blessed in that I found the lump in the early stage and that my surgeon was able to remove it all, and that it hadn't spread to my lymph nodes. This past year has pretty much sucked, but there have been some very positive things to come out of it as well. Losing weight has given me some of my mojo back, and I have so much more energy than before. There's no way I can turn back from my quest to live a healthier lifestyle now...
