Loss of Appetite

  • Hi,

I have been on IP for a month. This last week I have no appetite. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. I'm not exactly crying a river over it, I mean it's great for weight loss. But now I"m finding the food just a chore to eat and I'm starting to be tired a lot.

This is new for me, I love food! I'm sure I wouldn't turn down a burger and fries. ;-) But I don't want to do that! That's how I ended up here.

I would like to hear about anyone else how has had this happen. Tips and advice is appreciated of course.

    Thanks for reading.

I started 7 weeks ago and definitely had some weeks where I had to push the food down. This week, not so much; I have been starving every day until after lunch. Kind of like a roller coaster, ups and downs along the way, just enjoy the ride!
  • Yes, hang in there. I would say if you remain tired have some blood work done to check for anemia, hypothyroidism, etc. I have a B12 shot once a month and take B12 supplement since I don't eat meat. It helps. Isn't it amazing to not want to eat.

Yes this is exactly it. Sometimes I had to force down my restricted snack because I just wasn't hungry. Lately I seem to be in a more hungry phase. It ebbs and flows. Make sure you get your food down though. When I don't feel like "eating", I'll use the Vanilla Pudding or Drink pouch and blend it with water, ice cubes, and a whack of spinach. Then I can just drink it all down
  • Thanks everyone for the replies.

Once my appetite was gone I didn't know what to do with myself. After thinking about it a lot last night I realized I AM an emotional eater. I had never really thought I was. I'm lonely and miss my friend food. The food that was always there. I think I'm having a hard time just living without having whatever I want whenever I want.

I had no idea this was me. I come home and walk around in circles because I want to eat but I'm not hungry for the food on the list. When I eat it doesn't fill me with the joy that food used to fill me with.

Anyone else out there with this sense of loss? I just don't know what to do with myself. I have little boys and I"m busy all the time. But I mean, I don't know what to do with my feelings.

I guess now that I had this epiphany I'll have to read more about emotional eating! And to think all these years I said it wasn't true!
  • I'm on week 17 and there have been times where it was a chore to eat. Now I find I'm eating more out of necessity than luxury. I think it's just the way we react to this diet and eating healthy...something many of us were not use to! Embrace it!!!
  • oh yes i love my appetite about two days each week. I cook new foods even and just throw most of it away. i simply try to get as close to the 1000 calories so i dont go into starvation mode.... but yea... Im sorry its happening to you!~~!
  • Appetite suppression is a result of ketosis...that is one of the few ways they can keep us at such low calorie levels.
  • I find the longer I stay on plan the less hungry I feel. I didn't know that appetite suppression is a result of ketosis - thank you! I fell off plan last week for a couple of days and it's definitely a slippery slope. I could have eaten my right arm! Now that I'm back OP I've been trying new things to keep myself interested in my veggies. Last night I made kale chips and they were pretty good! My favourite though is grilled asparagus - I never have a problem eating that.
