Does anyone else binge when they skip a workout?

  • I have this problem. I go to the gym almost every evening after class and work, because it saves me from my nighttime binges. That's how I lost 30 pounds.

But when I'm too tired and skip a day, it is a given that I will eat my heart out. It's like an "oh well" attitude, and I need to get rid of it! I think I'm way too "all or nothing." Like, "I'm not working out tonight so here's my chance to eat this and this and this." Ugh even after 30 pounds I'm STILL not normal!

    Does anyone else do this?
  • I don't necessarily do it if I don't go to the gym, but weekends can be a killer for me for the same types of reasons. My WW weigh in is on Saturday morning. I leave the meeting all reenergized and motivated, but then I get home and there's less structure on the weekends than during the week and I think "Ok, I can have a little bit of that" and a little bit turns into a bunch. It's the whole feeling that I have a whole week to work it off.

I have lost over 70 pounds and I am still that way.....we just have to learn to control and moderate!

DITTO! Weekends kill me, Sat a.m. I try to workout but I generally go out to big dinners on Sat. night with drinks and then big breakfasts etc. Sun and don't work out - I log my cals during the week but never on the weekends which is something to work out - don't worry you are NOT the only non-normal weight loser!!
  • Workouts make me feel better and suppress my appetite so I am less likely to overeat on a day that I work out or the day following an evening workout. I don't know why that is. It's probably a lot in my head.

If I don't work out, I feel hungrier, which seems counter intuitive, but it has been the pattern all along. But, it could also be that on days I don't work out it's because there's a reason I didn't work out - too little sleep, too much to do, so too much stress, someone is sick, or I'm a bit sick and all of those situations lead me to want to eat a bit more - and again, mostly because sleep is disrupted.

See what is more behind the binges. is it really the all or nothing mentality, or is it something else and try to figure it out so you can remedy the situation.
  • I do the same thing. I get a little panicky if i don't work out, and then it's like "what else is there to do but eat." Anytime my routine is off (such as weekends) i tend to overeat
  • Saturday is usually my worst day. I normally go visit my parents and they have a ton of chips and cookies in the house. Not to mention my moms amazing cooking. I really have to have some self control. I still tend to eat more when Im over there then during the week, but I try to surround myself with the better snack choice if I do choose to snack on Saturdays(which is usually the case).

You could always plan out some sort of at home work outs on days you skip the gym. Maybe yoga? Also, have you tried buying more healthier snack food? So if you do end up having a mini binge its at least on foods your body can break down faster so it fills you up quicker; and encourages you to stop the binge sooner?
