Are all bagged frozen fries fried?

  • Sorry- I didn't know where to put this question, I'm new here.

I just wanted to know: We used to be frozen fries eaters. You know you just take them out of the frozen bag, put then in the oven, done! But I never questioned that they were fried first at the manufacturing plant and then you choose to either fry them at home or bake them. Do you know if they're all pre-fried before you reheat them?

If they are, I see why I bake my own homemade fries at home now. Frozen fries was one of the things we eat much less often now (like really not often!).

    Thanks.
  • I dont know that they are "pre" fried, but I would venture to say that they are processed.

Thats great that you are doing home-made, that was gonna be my suggestion.
  • Even if they're not pre-fried, most of them are coated with tons of fat and salt. Cheaper, healthier to make your own and they don't taste like a stale supermarket freezer.

I buy very few processed foods, who knows what's in them anymore.
  • You can make your own frozen french fries if you're looking for the quick meals that you used to make. I don't always feel like cutting up my fries, then baking, so the homemade frozen are the way to go!

AWESOME! I bet this would work wonderfully for sweet potatoes and maybe butternut squash.
  • Thanks gals. And thanks Munchy for the link...I've made my own before but I didn't think of refreezing them, interesting. What scares me is if the frozen fries are not that great for you, just think how much better those are than the fast food fries...and just think of how many of those I used to eat, and how many people eat right now. When my son gets a rare fast food fry, I take about 2-3 for a taste and that's it!

I love paprika and garlic salt etc, on fries too!
  • I have a freezer food obsession, but I like the taste and healthiness of my own food for both me and my daughter. I cook and freeze EVERYTHING! I spend entire weekends cooking (yesterday I cooked for 7 hours straight - but most of that was for the superbowl) to save me time on a daily basis. If I'm going to cook, I might as well make large amounts, portion, and freeze. Then I get the same meal I would have eaten anyway, plus 5-7 more servings for later!

I make chicken/veggie nuggets, chicken/veggie sticks, and zucchini/turkey meatballs for my little one. She loves "fun" foods and there is no way I'm going to make a plate of meatballs on a Monday night when we get home. Nope!
