Veggie juice a must???

  • Hi all
I just got the supercharged book (ok a Christmas present). Are there any substitutions for the vegetable juice or V8 juice? I can't stand the stuff. I love veggies but NOT V8 or vegetable juice. Does fruit/V8 count?
    thanks

  • You don't need the vegetable juice at all unless you aren't eating vegetables. It's just an option for people who have trouble getting all the veggies in. Since you love them, go for the real thing. They are so much healthier and filling that way
  • Ugh! I can't stand V8!! I've been on south beach close to 4 years, and haven't touched it yet . Welcome!!
  • You don't have to have V8 but stay away from fruit juice on all phases of SB.
  • agreed, absolutely not necessary to drink vegetable juice. I drink it sometimes when I am having eggs and/or beans for breakfast; it seems to go well with those for me. Otherwise, in general, I don't drink it very often.

You can pretty much substitute anything on SBD as long as you stick to its basic principles. for that! For example, I rarely eat the "ricotta cremes" but use Greek yogurt instead...
  • I am one of the ones who actually garnered a taste for V8 - I thought it was mandatory and after a few weeks, I discovered I like them. I buy the 5.5 oz cans and drink them every few days or so. But as others said, not necessary.
  • Actually you might find you like the spicy V8 - low sodium variety is great! And, I do find it a great way to get in veggies at breakfast.
  • I use Knudsen's spicy vegetable juice as the base for avocado gazpacho Is it summer yet?
  • have you thought about making your own?? If I'm not to lazy I'll make a big batch on my day off and then use it the rest of the week. I found it tastes good, because you pick your veggies and flavours. As mentioned a great way to get veggies in during breakfast
  • I like the Knudsen juices, too - and they come in low sodium.

Also like emmaD's thought about sticking to the principles of the diet and not the meal plans - makes life so much easier. And I prefer the greek, zero fat yogurt to ricotta. And it's helped to hang on to a love or two -- I won't give up my caffeinated coffee with half and half or the occassional nonfat latte (always more than one shot of espresso).

So far, I'm losing weight, but I'm coming off phase 1 this week and am nervous.
