Starting Medifast & Fitness Bootcamp

  • I am starting me 3 day/week bootcamp again this evening, it meets MWF for an hour, it's pretty intense - I've been on a break from it for about 3 months. I intended on starting Medifast tomorrow and my Medifast coach told me I should hold off on starting bootcamp for a week until my body gets used to the program, or eat an extra meal/snack.... I don't want to prolong the bootcamp (I already paid for it), so I'm thinking of just eating an extra snack, but I don't want to throw off the Medifast regimine... Has anyone else ever done this? Will I be fine? Thanks!
  • In my opinion, you would not be fine. Medifast is a low calorie diet, meaning you'll be eating under 1200 cals, and you will not be eating enough to support the bootcamp workout. As your coach said, exercise is not recommended for at least a couple of weeks, and then exercise should be moderate.

If I were you, I'd go ahead with the bootcamp since you paid for it, but hold off on starting Medifast until the bootcamp series is over.

If you insist on doing both, you definitely should add an extra meal in there--maybe even two. Shakes are a good option for this.

Just my opinion--I'm not a coach or trainer.

    I appreciate the feedback
  • It is in the program materials that you shouldn't start any sort of exercise for 3 weeks. And then, after 3 weeks if you start pretty intense exercise, the common suggestion seems to be to follow a 4-2 plan (4 Medifast meals, 2 Lean-n-green meals).

In your shoes, if you want to start intense exercise now, instead of adding an extra meal, I might try doing the 4-2 plan at least on your class days. An extra meal might work too.

I read a very interesting article once about how excerise (esp. intense exercise) on a very low calorie diet like Medifast can in one way be counter productive.
