UK size 16/18 girls (= US 14-16) - what's your weight, waist and height?

  • I am just curious because I find it weird that I dont wear a bigger clothes.
I wear shirts from UK 14-18, most often 16.
    I wear coats UK 16-18
    pants UK 18/20

    I am 220 lbs (100kg) and 168 cm (5'6''1/4)
my waist measure is around 97 cm or 38''

I feel so big that I'd expect to wear 24 or something.
  • When I started my journey I was wearing TIGHT 16's at 225lbs. I dropped down to 14's somewhere before I hit 200lbs. The 14's I wore the longest were a pair of Levi's that I eventually stopped wearing somewhere in the mid-190's.

As for tops I have a really large bust size so shirts have always depended on how much stretch they have in the bust. I normally wore XL's so no clue what number size I was wearing on top.

In reality it comes down to how you carry your weight, what your frame size is, and how muscular you are. I have a relatively large frame, at my highest I had fairly evenly distributed weight (but always a large bust/butt), and I was exercising since the beginning so I think that's influenced me being able to wear smaller clothing sizes.

ETA: oh, and I'm half an inch shorter than you. I can't remember what my waist measurements were at that time... definitely 35" or above.
  • Well, seeing this thread does not encourage me . I say that because I wear about a size 14-16 US and my waist is way bigger than what you both specify and I weigh a bit less. I weigh as of this morning 179 and my waist is 44 inches.

Maybe height makes a huge difference. At 5'1", I am way shorter than both of you!

  • I am 208 lbs and wear a size 20. I am 5'8. Years ago I got down to 154 lbs and was still a size 14.
  • I was a 14/16 at my starting weight before I started lifting weights, and after I started lifting weights I was a 12/14 (US sizes) still at 200lbs. I usually wore an XL or 2X in tops.

From what I remember, my measurements were:

    Bust: 44"
Waist: 35 or 36", but I believe it was 35"
    Hips: 46"

    I'm 5'3"

My bust measurement is the only one I know for sure is right as I had measured myself to get an accurate bra size. The others I remember taking at one point around the beginning of my weight loss so I could buy clothes online.
  • im a uk 16-18. im 5'7.5 im 267 lbs. my measurements are 47-44-48ish. if i measure around the smallest part of my waist its 39 but alot of sites tell me to measure at my belly button. my torso is very long so my belly button isnt the smallest part of my waist but whatever lol i know the 16-18 uk clothes i have measure in the 40 inch waist range so i think the 39 is probably closer to my real waist size

so its probaby 47(sometimes 48 i dont know why it varies lol)-39-48

it mostly 18s and 20 in tops. i shop at big girl stores too so i think they are generous in their sizing

Well, at my highest it could've been a lot more. I just know for sure it's over 35" because at some point in my journey it measured at 35". However, I can't remember if that was when I was over 200lbs or not so it could've been in a wide range of weight.

Also your height plays a huge role. Your BMI is equivalent to mine at about 210lbs so we might have had fairly similar measurements at that point, I just don't remember very well!

Even with a long torso you measure at your natural waist. The reason is that most pants take that measurement and then add 5-6" to calculate the waistband (assuming it sits at your hips or basically anywhere by your natural waist). So adding 5" to your natural waist = 44", which seems to work out perfectly for you.
